I, as a white southerner, find that to be deplorable, dispicable, and unacceptable....I shall overcome, however.

Nope, White Southerners are looked at as a race just a disgrace to human kind.. (Not how I feel) It's o.k. for White people to be called cracker, Redneck, Hillbilly, Racist, Whitie etc. people don't make a big to do about it because white people don't really care. If we stood up and said NO we aren't going to allow you to call us names like that people would laugh in our faces and tell us how we suppressed the black man for so many years.. As if that makes it o.k.!! Blacks aren't the only ones who have had a unfair battle in this country and they need to realize that.. Native Americans (read Paul Grass' blog it's great) have had an even worse time with their battle! Latino's, Asians, Polish, Irish, Jewish have all been the base for a Joke or unwelcomed comment in this country.
What I find interesting is I've seen Black people who were born and raised here be racist against True Africans who immigrate here.. They are rude and nasty to them, they say they can't stand the way they are and make fun of them.. I've seen it.. there's a bowling alley here where the Native black people are going to change bowling allies because there's a group of Africans who come there and they say they get to loud.. Talk about Racism, isn't that the worst when it gets to blacks against blacks?

I don't know about you.. but as a white southerner I pretty much feel that if someone doesn't like me for it they can piss off... why does society get so pissy over this stuff... if you want to move on towards the future.. you can't dwell in the past... and dwelling is what too many people are doing.

A generic insult against a region hardly compares to an insult against specific women concerning their looks and sexual morals.
