Just wondering. I have it and my husband and I (like a lot of other couples this as our only method of birth control.) Its said to be more effective than a tubal. but what would happen? Would you miscarry?
I've had it for over a year now and never had a period but all of a sudden i am having a pretty heavy period (for me anyways) and just though it was odd.

I dont think im pregnant though. But i was just wonder what if it did happen. Thats something they really didnt explaine when i was getting it. i didnt know if it would be like an automatic miscarriage if you had one or not (which would be absolutly horrible) But i was recently in the hosp. and had to be pumped with ALOT of steriods..that may caused it? (and not to mention my face hasnt broken out this bad since i was like 14!) and im note sure if theyd do that or not?

I have had mirena for two and half years and I haven't had a period since I had it placed. But I did ask a thousand questions during the procedure and the Doctor said that most people dont say anything. I wanted to know everything I could because I still want two more children but I needed to be sure that this was the right form of birth control. So this is what I know. . .

If you do get pregnant, the doctor will try and remove the IUD without causing a miscarriage. My doctor told me that if it were to happen it would more than likely be a ectopic pregnancy and thus it would have to terminated. It is unlikely that you will get pregnant but if you be sure that you make an appt with OB/GYN and get checked out immediately!!

Your heavy period could just be a result of hormonal changes. If it last more than seven days of heavy bleeding with frequent changing of pads and tampons, like every two to three hours, I would make a Dr.'s appt immediately. It could also be pre-menopausal bleeding if you are within that age range. One last thing, clumps and clots are normal so don't freak out and think miscarriage but because of a blood clot.

Be sure you see OB/GYN if it lasts more than 7 days with frequent changing or if you have severe abdominal cramps.

Just a thought, hope that I have helped you some.

If you become pregnant while using an IUD, it is highly recommended that you have the IUD removed, whether or not you want to carry the pregnancy to term. An IUD increases the risk of having a miscarriage or premature birth. If you become pregnant while using an IUD it is also more likely to have an ectopic pregnancy. I would see your doctor if you feel you may be pregnant.

Go to the doctor. This could be nothing or something very serious. Don't wait.
