You are raising the bar too high. Lets first take the baby steps. We have illegal immigrant issue. Lets deal with that first.

The quick and glib answer is yes, and the faster the better! That is before we think about it. I know that there is a lot of abuse and that it is the middle class that feel like they're carrying the whole load, but remember that there are unwanted babies out there that for what ever reason weren't aborted or given up and the only way that they eat is because of welfare, I don't care so much about the adults but children can't fend for them selves, I'll continue to cuss it but we need to keep it in place for the children, and the disabled.
Note; Some how this went from welfare to illegals, and some how they are getting all of the funds from welfare. I am super opposed to illegals but how would you tell a young mother with a child that she must go hungry or live in the street? Not me. I don't want illegals here but I sure don't want any child to go hungry or even that child's mother because some great man ran off and left his responsibility to you and I, no we need welfare

I'm not on welfare, but I disagree with you to a point. Single moms and dads need help. With wages going down, it's a real problem to support children without it. There is a limit to how many you can support on welfare.
I think what we need are to take the tax cuts and loop holes away from the rich and put the educational and vocational training programs back to welfare recipients as they did during the Clinton administration, so these people can help themselves. Don't forget that student loans have been cut to help them also.
I don't think illegals should be receiving ANY kind of benefits from the U.S.. That's why I have my members of Congress and Representatives in my email address book and also on speed dial.

I think that we really need to be concerned about the quality of our society.
Many great people have said that: The measure of a great society is the manner by which we show compassion for the aged and those less fortunate.
Granted, nearly everything that is legislated requires some reform but the "rules" vary from State to State and this promotes mass migrations to those States with the most liberal "rules", resulting in taxing those that liberal and permitting the rest a free ride: This practice also tends to "cloister" groups of recipients, delaying /preventing their integration into the community:Maybe the guidelines should be standardized form State to State.
We must remember that those subject to the "rules", typically have the least amount of input in determining them.
As with most things, these manifestations are the product of our culture and we aught to take responsibility for producing them and respond appropriately in considering just how much responsibility we bare in finding a resolution. This, conversely, in stigmatizing, those that already have problems to surmount.

I hope somewhere along the way you learn to use that little box that checks your spelling, but then your grammar would be a problem.
In fact, you could be one of those sent to work in a field since its obvious that office work isn't in your future, unless of course you have managed to fool some school administrators and are still in school learning how to spell 'probably'.
In the meantime, less just say that the days of the welfare queens are long gone, and just pulled out to make people jump up and down reflexively. Not to mention that most are under 16.
Everyone can use a bit of help now and then, most have not been or will be on welfare for more than a year, but corporations have cut sweet 'no tax' deals that last for ten or more years, and cost us way more.

I don’t mind paying taxes to help needy people as much as I mind paying taxes that go to certain big rich corporations that definitely don’t need my money.
We can’t go backwards and return to the conditions of the late 1800s and the early 1900s where children lived on the streets of big cities and families starved. We can improve the welfare system without leaving our fellow human beings completely in need and hopeless.
At any given time, there are very few people on welfare. Most people in this country, however, live from paycheck to paycheck and few people are assured of not winding up completely destitute due to health reasons, job loss and/or severe misfortune. We should maintain a safety net whereby we help each other.

Sigh. There are about 298 million americans, and, about 1.6 welfare recipients. As a political message such talk still works with conservatives. But like so much in life, the truth is far different than the cliche. The welfare issue is a sidebar to real issues Americans need to grapple with.

I am not for getting rid of it, just setting more limits to it. More like providing daycare so the parent(s) can work at a state appointed job that they qualify for and helping them find a job that they will be happy with and can get off of assistance.
It really does help people in need, but you hear way too many stories about people abusing it.

Are you insane?,or just ill informed.Clinton reformed Welfare, now it's a work program. The underprivileged now must work for their, money, food cards, and medical card.Since most of the poor are Women and children, the Women have to get care for their children, some help is given by the State, but if you make more than one hundred fifty bucks a week, you have to pay towards that also.If they don't work, well they are kicked off. Most have low paying jobs, but some can't get jobs,so they put them to work,no choice in the kind of job is given either.Trash is a harsh word, please reconsider your thought process.

You can't get rid of welfare.Think!!!!! How many people everyday lose their job because a plant shuts down or is down sizing? What are these people suppose to do?They will turn to crime. We'd have to build way more prisons. It costs more to house someone in jail than they would get on welfare. So how does getting rid of welfare help?

With our current unemployment rate so low, why is anyone on welfare? They must not be able to work and should be on disability.
I am totally behind welfare reform, should help enable people to care for themselves, not just shell out money, food and shelter.
