If the universe was created by the "Big Bang" then in essence woulnt something have had to come from nothing. And if God created the universe thats a stretch too. I was raised catholic and I guess I have my own convictions. But no matter what you belive its pretty far out there...right?

Space, like everything else created, is finite. You can be sure of that. The only thing that is infinite is God the Creator. Nothing else can be infinite because that would be like God. And there is only one God. So God is the only thing infinite. And so, as you can see, the universe was created by God. People say that this is balony, but they go ahead and believe a man-made theory (the Big Bang). Which takes more faith to believe in: That God created the universe from His infinite power and wisdom, or it simply just happened from nothing? Well, as you said, where did this "nothing" come from in the first place? It had to start with something, right? Only God can create something from nothing! If you take an empty jar and seal it up completely and put it into some airtight containment and leave it there for a million years, what would you find in the jar after that time? Science would tell you "nothing!" That's because "nothing" would come out of "nothing". Nothing creates itself, in other words. Nothing exists by itself without having a start from something else. God is the source of that start. God is the only entity that exists by itself. He is existence...

The universe is infinite in space, but astronomers believe it does have a finite age. Astronomers accept the theory that about 14 billion years ago the universe began as an explosive event resulting in a hot, dense, expanding sea of matter and energy. This event is known as the big bang
Astronomers cannot observe that far back in time. Many astronomers believe, however, the theory that within the first fraction of a second after the big bang, the universe went through a tremendous inflation, expanding many times in size, before it resumed a slower expansion.

The most recent observations and research strongly suggests that our universe is infinite, that is it will continue to expand indefinitely. When talking about "what" was before the Big Bang, or "what" the universe is expanding into is totally and absolutely unknown. There are ideas, but not a single shred of hard scientific evidence to support any of them.

Space and the universe is finite.
At one time they didn't exist and one day they will go out of existence
The big bang started as a single space-time pulse that evolved into the universe that we see and experience to-day.

Current thinking is that space has no edge but still is finite in volume because it is curved in a higher dimension, just like the surface of the Earth has no edge but has a finite surface area because its two dimensional surface is curved in the third dimension. The only difference is that we cannot see any 4th or higher dimension, while we CAN see the third dimension.

But either way, finite or infinite, it is mind blowing, isn't it?

Looking for the answer to your question of people who are deeply immersed in physics, philosophy, or theology, there are people who say it is finite, others say it is infinite, others say it is both, and others say it is neither.

If anyone is certain that they have the correct answer; don't believe them. No one knows for sure.
