What really happens to us when we die?
do we just rot? or turn to ash, then nothing else, OR is there another plane of existance out there?

i think we go on, to something else, our spirit/soul moves along,, but yes we leave our bodies behind,,,,,,,
if you ever have a chance, look into a newborns eyes, be open,,,, just look,,,,and open yourself to feel,,,,,, my impression is that no, they didnt just materialize out of no where,,,,,, this is a new journey for them,,,,, a new phase, but they came from somewhere,,,

Read Ecclesiastis 9:5. The dead are concious of nothing at all. Then look at the gospels where Jesus resurrected Lazarus and few others. Where were they when they were dead? Like Ecclesiastis say "concious of nothing at all". So, are the dead without hope? No, Jesus resurrected many and so what does this mean? That those whom are deserving will be resurrected. Read Psalms 37:10-11. Matthew 5:5 and there are so many other scriptures is too many to actually put on here. Adding to my comment, those that Jesus resurrected eventually died but those whom will be resurrected in the future will have everlasting life on earth. Isaiah 45:18.

No one is ever going to answer this question and put your mind at ease. Because this subject is based purely on theories which are based on opinions. Who could you choose is right or who is wrong based on this? The human mind has a hard time accepting that this life where we are at the present is all there is however some truly believe it or learned to believe it. Some choose to believe in an after-life. But regardless of what they say it can only be what you yourself feels and no one else. To do this you must place your faith in something. It would be far better to not worry yourself about what may be and think about that which is.

This is something which anybody knows only after dying, I am from India, and we have various spiritual books which clear this riddle very much. Which says.....
There are 8.4 million species which exist in this world, and every soul has to live each and every life, but it depends on how do you lead your life ? If you give troubles to people, treat the poor like slaves, abuse, hurt somebody, physically or mentally etc. etc. , then god gives you the results accordinglly and decides your life span in the most troubled species where you have to bear lot of pain, and that is all what have given to other people. This life cycle goes on, till you stop doing such type of deeds.

"you" cease to exist, if you believe in life after death your immortal soul goes on but your terrestrial existence ends, hence "you" end.

You will black out, rot, decompose.
and you will repay your debt to mother earth (for polluting her) by decomposing your body to the earth and allow trees to grow.
