I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus. Why is it that when I go to start my car in the morning it doesn't always start up right away? Also, when I'm idle the car shakes a lot, what is causing that? I had my fuel line and pump changed December 2005. I had my radiator and battery changed right before the winter. I also had an oil change and tune up right before winter began. And my car doesn't always want to start. It is very hesitant to start even when it does. No one seems to have an answer for me as to why it is happening and what has to be done to fix it. Can you please assist me?

This same thing has happened to me twice on two different makes of car. It always occurred after I had jump started someone else's car-which I will never do again. I still don't know what it is.

Check your fuel injectors. A mechanic can do a "drip test" to see if they are clogged.

Also I would check your ignition system (spark plugs, wires, coil, distributor, etc.) You may a detonated plug or a bad coil causing a cylinder or two to be "dead"

It's not running on all cylinders when idling. Old plugs, bad compression and dirty injectors are likely culprits.

did you change the gas filter?thats what it sounds to me like.sounds like dirt is settling in the filter, overnight and clogging it up.change the filter and see if that helps. if it doesnt, you wont be out of much money, but thats what it sound like.
