I have read so many books in my 30 years and when someone asks this, I never know what to say. What type of books do you like? If I am going to read a murder/mystery, I choose something from the Kay Scarpetta series written by Patricia Cornwell. I just finished reading a book that has been out for FOREVER...Tuesday's with Morrie. The book was fascinating, I cried through almost the entire thing, and it only took me a couple of hours to read it. Right now I am also reading the Harry Potter series...they are fantastic as well, and last but not least, I am reading a book called "A Shameful Act" that is about Turkish responsibility towards the armenian genocide. I could be like the energizer bunny and keep going, but I will stop there. Thanks!!!!

Since this is such an open question I guess I could recommend my own story, The Shadow Within. It is a young adult urban fantasy about a girl in high school who thinks the new boy at school could actually be a murderer. Although it is an urban fantasy it also has adventure, mystery and romance in it. Oh, and soccer too.
On my website I also have lots of recommendations for other young adult fantasy as well, if you're curious.

The DaVinci code is not at all well written, just so you know.
Not knowing anything about you, I would recommend Catcher in the Rye. Almost everybody seems to like this book.

I'm a writer. The best book for geting an idea on how to write a 'screenplay' or 'musical' is called STORY by Robert Mckee. It's an insanely brilliant text.

Wow, it all depends on how old you are, male or female, what your interests are, etc. Out of the blue I always recommend The DaVinci Code ... but then again ... I don't know you ...
