I think their hate reflects just how much they do love us.. They see this nation speaking out against our leader and they are like robots they follow along. I'm not saying that they can't decide for themselves, but most countries don't have near the reliable sources we do for their information, So their News reflects our most Popular opinions.

I don't think they are as shallow as they are misguided. When they get here, a lot of times they see for themselves and their opinions change.. I go to a gas station where a Man and his wife have immigrated from India and they Love America and say that there are a lot of people over there trying to make it here and love it too.. The only thing they don't like is the way people confuse them with terrorist. They are 2 of the kindest people I have met. And they support America and Bush over here.

I think that's far too broad a generalisation. Most of the thinking people I know have mixed feelings about the USA: there are certain admirable qualities irrespective of who's in the White House - for example the courage and genius that went into the design of the constitution - but there's also a good deal of grief about the direction that the current President (and his precursors such as Reagan) have taken, which threaten the security and the survival of the whole world. It's very difficult when you live in a different part of the world and know that - for example - whatever efforts your own country puts into trying to stop global warming are likely to be negated by the actions of the USA, or that your country could become the battleground for a US-originated proxy fight.

I'll give you one small example: after 9/11 just about every country in the world sent formal and informal messages of deep condolence and support, even countries from whom that kind of thing wouldn't be expected. Not one of them was acknowledged.

So it's rather like living in a family where you're bound together by all sorts of inevitable ties - practical and emotional - but the most powerful member of the family has the ability to take actions that can endanger everyone else. You have a mixture of love, grief, and fear that is very hard to live with, especially when you can't make your voice heard.

You’re assuming that people worldwide are so shallow. Most people I know from other countries recognize the difference between the president and the American people.

The voters, however, allegedly chose the president, so condemnation of the president’s policies necessarily relates to the views of the people. If the president does horrible things, he supposedly does so in the name of the American people.

Even if the president’s approval rating is low, we don’t have a system in this country where the country’s executive can be replaced on that basis alone. I think most educated people in other countries recognize that.

I will have to disagree with you on that.I don't like Bush as a person or a leader but I do love my country.America is the best country around it's only our political system that bites.I'm not just talking Republican here.I have no love for candidates like Clinton either. As far as worldwide hate unfortunately our leaders who are voted in is suppose to be a representation of what we as a country believe in.So they see this as what America stands for.So while you may not believe in the protests we have they are actually a good thing. It let's the world see we don't always agree with our decision makers. And maybe a bad policy is not ALL Americans fault.Thereby reducing their hatred of us as a whole.

Your president is the elected leader of the whole nation. What he does (or does not) has worldwide impact because USA is a huge nation and the only superpower in the world. Its actions shape world events.

Whether it is one who does not know how to exit from the current Iraq War or one messing around with a young woman intern in the White House itself or a Hollywood actor who make everyone feel good or a peanuts farmer who cried over a bungled mission to save Americans in Iran or one who authorised a burglary at Watergate, it is bound to attract attention worldwide (thanks for your over zealous media for reporting it faithfully). You cannot blame the rest of the world for their leanings based on who is the President. He is your leader and spokesman for the nation.

What Americans can do is to choose their President carefully and not allow an idiot to get into office.

Read back your own question to yourself, and you will see that the worldwide opinion isn't all caught up in the Whitehouse. You make the presumption for the rest of the world...which is irritating. And to call them shallow? I think that says it all. Your ignorant and naive opinion is incorrect. Attitudes like yours are disliked by the world...

The world does not hate us for WHO is in the white house, it hates our government for WHAT it is doing around the world by killing hundreds of thousands of people unnecessarily and aiding countries financially that are committing genocide against innocent people. You will find that many of us hate our own government for the same reasons. It is human nature to hate those who are doing evil.

That is shallow.Worried about the person who can -and sometimes will - start illegal wars that embroil large portions of the world and their security.
How dare They?
(Sometimes I wish I were a rightie so I too could have such limited views and thoughts)

I'm not sure what you are talking about...We are hated by other countries because we invaded Iraq against the wishes of the rest of the world, destabilizing the Middle East, and making ourselves look like bullies who will poke our nose in wherever we choose without justification.
