You are introduced to Her Majesty and she reaches out her hand - you then reach out with yours. You always wait for her, you don't stick your hand out.

And you just 'touch flesh', not give her a tight squeeze, she may have to shake several hundred hands a day. (Spare gloves are always in her handbag, I believe.)

And anyone can shake hands with her. It is customary for men to bob their heads and women to do a little curtsey first - no more down on your knees stuff. (PS, until late 19th/early 20th C, men 'curtsied' too!)

Her Royal Majesty is very informal when it comes to such things. Once you've greeted her, she is to be addressed as ma'am from then on, if that tells you anything.

Technically, you should wait to be approached with her hand, but if you offered your hand, no one's going to arrest you or throw you out. Just don't *grab* her hand :)

If you wanted to shake hands with her, you would just stick out your and maybe she would shake yours. She is royalty to another country so we do not have to "below" her. We are not even to bow to her or anyone else.

You don't put your hand out to shake hers....you have to wait and see if she wants to shake yours. Otherwise the secret service will be kicking the sh*i**t out of you.

I don't know but I guess it would make sense with either member of the royal family to not look to eager but be prepared.
