Fantasy Faceoff, playoffs 6- a troop of polish lancers meet a family of hungry trolls in pitched battle- who wins, and why?

The Lancers, fresh from their victory versus the Unicorns, have had their minds opened to the reality of legends but are woefully unprepared for the horror of their new opponents. Trolls stand nine feet tall, with grayish-green skin, wiry black hair, sharp claws and teeth, are superhumanly strong, and regenerate damage supernaturally fast. In fact the only type of damage they cannot regenerate from is cauterization - by fire or acid. As they crash into the Lancers they drag a few off their horses and rip them limb from limb while the rest chase the reforming calvary line, which wheels around, couches lances, and charges. The massive impact of horse sends trolls flying, spitted and impaled. They hit the ground, twitch for a few minutes as the Lancers look on .... and then for a few more minutes.... and then they get back to their feet as wounds close and bones mend right in front of the Lancers eyes.
Some of the more dedicated Lancers try it again - with the same results - except this time there seem to be more trolls than before - in fact every time one loses a limb under the Lancers hooves a new troll grows from the severed limb in just a few minutes. Now there are trolls everywhere, all around the Lancers, striking at the horses, pulling Lancers down, biting and clawing with savagery.
If any of the Lancers draw their sabers and try to fend off the trolls they simply compound their problems by creating new trolls. The smartest Lancers are the ones that flee from the rout, living to fight other battles. Those that stay die.

The polish lancers would win if they do one thing. We all know that trolls are enormous creatures, hideously ugly, extremely strong and throughly evil-minded. But, if the lancers can lure the troll away from his dark cave long enough for the sun to rise the troll would then turn to stone. That would be a "W" for the Polish Lancers.

After they killed the unicorns they decided to drink unicorn blood to see what would happen. As it turns out they are now invincible, they try to kill the trolls but ... mess up. The trolls can't kill them either. The Lancers go home, read Lordbearclaw's answer about how trolls can only be killed by cauterising the wounds. Then they pour petrol onto their poles, set it alight and then go and make troll kebabs - squeeze of lemon anyone?
