The new procedure of throwing tourists in jail if they get a minor speeding ticket and left there until they have checked if your valid passport is really valid, sounds way over the top. Or is this the new normal, probably copied from one of the countries they invaded

No, as long as you don't look middle eastern.

This is not the normal procedure at all. Some yahoo sheriff went off the deep end in Georgia or the person involved is not telling the whole story. I'm in CA and nothing like that ever happens here. Our cops have more important things to deal with than that.

The Canadian press seems to have it out for the US these days. Chill out dudes.

I've never heard of that happening, and if it did it was probably in come backwards rural town. If you use your head, stay out of bad areas, obey the speed limits, don't become drunk and violent or disorderly, don't try to lure children into your car, then you should be fine. I have lived here all my life and never been a victim of a crime.

It's safer to be a tourist here than it is to be a taxpayer. About 35% of every paycheck disappears mysteriously and is never heard from again.

You've got to be joking! The US is one of the safest places to visit. I would suggest that you stay away from Mexico.

At least we don't kidnap and decapitate tourists.
