Or are you considered 'racist' if you make a statement that might offend someone?

there is a double standard when it comes to what whites can say versus what blacks can say but it's a result of the past. not saying it's right but it's almost like black people get a free pass on this one.

Well it doesnt specify?
It doesnt say "Freedom of black speech"...

You are being racist if you do offend someone because of the colour of their skin. Prejudice if you offend anyone because they are different and cant help being...

As long as what you say makes sense and isnt aimed at any individual groups, I see no reason why cant speak up bout whatever is on your mind...

Thanks
Have a nice day

What a volatile question--and a sensible one to ask! I agree that freedom of speech is slanted many times. I recall a congressman stepping down from his seat when he used the word "*********" in his speech. Instantly, the black people in the audience thought he was referring to them when, in fact, the word "*********" means grudgingly mean about spending or granting; begrudging or stingy.

Such a comment got thrown way out of proportion only because of ignorance and stupidity.

Nonetheless, Don Imus's comments were caustic and unnecessary. He knew better than to deliver such remarks and he did so to sound clever or "cutesy." Many people have nappy hair, but not all should be called "hoes," a derivation of the word 'whores.'

You have freedom of speech but like most things there are exceptions limitations to abide by which are mostly common sense.

freedom of speech is not freedom to be racist. Racism is a disease and It can not be tolerated. Freedom of speech is a lame excuse if what you want is to be is a racist.

Shhhhhhhhhhh watch what you say, they are listening. From now on if you want to offend someone just have one of your non-white friends do it for you. Damn that was a good one. I gotta write that down. he he he
