there is a young guy living in the apartment above me and he is constantly blaring his music to the point that my furniture actually vibrates, we spoke to him twice about it then the third time i rang his landlord who had a word, but it keeps happening, it is during the night time from around half 11 to after 2am, however on tuesday he came home for a party at 3am and partied all through the night they didnt leave until after 8:30!!! so i contacted his landlord again, and he had a word! again!!

he has apologised again and left his number so we can ring him if it happens again, but am i wrong in thinking that i shouldnt have to ring and tell him off, he should know!!!

i mean my partner starts work at 3am so you can imagine what its like being kept awake until the early hours of the morning with his partying.

I do not know what kind of tenant you are, private or not.
There is legislation covering this, so can I suggest you talk to your local council for advice.
Also speak to a lawyer, a letter from him to the landlord might be worthwhile.
As far as i know the Police do not respond to noise today.
This guy is very typical of todays rubbishy types. No dont bother ringing him, he is taking the Mick.
I had this trouble with a private tenant and yes it got me down.

I have the exact same problem with my neighbor. I have called the police on numerous occasions and been reasonably satisfied but they and I are getting tired of this. Since I am an electrician and I know where the power disconnects are I have turned off his power several times by removing the main fuses -it worked like a voodoo charm!

Now what I've done isn't very nice but it DID solve the problem. The way I did it also required his purchasing new fuses the next day.

Several other neighbors and I have left notes on his door regarding his music to no avail. So I'll keep shutting off his power and calling the police until it stops.

What he is doing is distrubing the peace. Call the police, file a complaint. You have went way out of your way to make the problem known. He may be giving you lip service. When the police tell him to turn the music down, he will listen or he'll wind up in jail. Plus if you have a police record, it will make it easier for the landlord to evict him. Also, it helps if there are other people complaining too, the more, the merrier. Good luck

We had a noisy upstairs neighbor once. We must've called the landlord a billion times. Eventually we had to call the police. Even that didn't really solve the problem though. They just told her to keep it down and went on their way. We ended up moving when our lease was up, it wasn't just the noise... more like the terrible managment.

Call the police. Or environmental health. Its noise polution. Between 11pm and 7am all noise must be at a reasonably level - music, voices, anything.

A word from them may actually effect him and make him stop so no need to take things further.

Call the police every time this happens. We did not do this with our similar problem (druggie living in flat daddy bought him) and we faced the consequences - shitty council house as a retreat from it.

Stand your ground and fight for your peace and quiet. If I could do it all again I'd sure do it different.

if this is in the uk call the police, if he is a repeat offender and the landlord is doing nothing about it - ie evicting him - then he will be fined.
Also keep a diary of the incidents to back you up

Ask your Landlord if he will give him a written final warning, not verbal, but in writing, and keep a copy.

Contact the environmental health department and they will come round while he is offending. They will warn him to stop. If not he risks having his HIFI removed on the spot plus fines.
