I have a pond with fish, frogs and tadpoles. My pump stopped working before xmas and I've just fixed it. The blanket weed is massive and I'm not sure my tadpoles are getting through it! Can I add blanket weed killer without harming my tadpoles? I'm worried my fish will die.

It really depends on the active ingredients in your weed killer. Copper is fairly common in some of these products and would kill your tadpole. Be sure to use a copper free product and I would suggest you remove as much weed / algae as possible manually before adding the weed killer. Once the weed dies, it creates ammonia and that will be very stressful to the fish. The less there is to die in the pond the better. Hope that helps and feel free to email me if I can help further.

blanket weed is not a good thing to have in a pond. you should pull it out with a stick or something similar.to stop it returning there is a product called barley straw liquid or in some pet shops you can buy barley straw just put this in the pond and eventually your blanket weed will disappear .this wll not harm fish or tadpoles,YOUR BLANKET WEED WILL. keep pulling it out on a regular basis. good luck BARLEY STRAW one day a farmer was transporting some barley straw on a truck through his farm, some fell off into a pond that was full of banket weed and murky, he left it there and after a while when the straw had rotted down, the pond was clear. I have pond fish plus tropical so trust me this really works but takes a while
