What I can't get over is, what if the races were reversed and a black commentator said something derogatory about whites? Not a word would be said, not a single eyebrow would be raised. No threats of punishment or sponsor pulling... none of that. It's okay because whites are the cause of all of this and it's perfectly justified.
That's why rappers and their ilk are allowed to get away with their slurs, it's such a blatant double standard, it's pathetic.
Right on, Morg.
Just read Whitlock's article. One word, "Brilliant".

Who cares? The ignorant liberal masses are having their way with the poor guy.
The sad thing is, there's nothing that man(Don Imus) could possibly say or speak over a radio that is going to lower the quality of life for any black male or female anywhere on this planet, but the cry-baby minorities feel that they can get something out of it....a little control.....and ruin the guy's career. It's just not fair.
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SAY NAPPY HEADED HOS OR WHATEVER IN A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY GOVERNED UNDER FREE SPEECH.
The FCC just needs to give up their rulebooks and let things fly. Sure, the racial slurs will be prevelant, but let's pull the thumbs out of our mouths, wipe the tears with our blanky-poos, and get over it.
Do people think spanking Don Imus, or anyone else for that matter, is going to change people's opinions of other races? You wish, morons, you wish.

I find it sad that there even is an "Imus situation". The US has this little thing called 'free speech'. You may not agree with what is being said, but it can be said. If it was meant in jest, then it can be clarified, but that is as far as it should go. No one should apologize for such nonsense. No one should be fired for such nonsense.
While I would never personally refer to someone as a nappy-headed ho, I am not about to insist someone else who did use the phrase be fired or severely reprimanded.
Yes, it was offensive. But no, it was not as big a deal as the media and certain hyper-sensitive members of the black community are making it out to be. It's like a cat with a cat bite abcess on it's rear. What a baby. Someone call a WAAAAAHMBULANCE.

I think Mr. Whitlock makes a valid point. If 39 out of 41 players were black, that should tell you something. There is no hidden agenda in this society. As China once said....Leave the United States alone...They will destroy themselves.
In the hearts of man, there are truly people that DO NOT WANT TO BE RACIST! Some people of color just won't let them!

I think that everybody needs to let go of the past and put aside the issues of slavery, separation, discrimination, and other issues andlok at how much better it is now and it might even get even better when people get out of the past and focus on building A future. this statement goes both ways and isn't directed toward any certain class of people but towards all classes of people.

i think he is mixing issues, you cant compare calling people names, with listing players who were arrested,,,,,,, perhaps more white players arrested should of been listed also, perhaps that report was biased,,, but it still was factual,,,
he does have a point in that people do not protest so strongly the record companies/radio stations/ producers of those derogatory rapper songs,,,,,,,, that doesnt make what Imus said better or right,,,,, just points out the hypocrisy,,,,, while some blacks do speak out on the rappers, they are not making signs and forming protest lines,,,,,,,,,,,
also, what makes this situation different, rappers address the public in general,,,,,,, Imus made his comments about a specific group of young women,,,,,,,, doesnt make the rappers right,,,,, just different
so i dont think the three examples given really compare to each other
we as a society do need to get beyond thinking a put down is ok if done to your own race, and bad if another race does it! it is just as bad, no matter who does it,, and just as bad if its accepted in the general public language as it is if directed at specific people,,,,,,,

I happen to agree with the rap statement....the lyrics blacks rap are much more horrific, yet they get away with it and are virtually praised for their so called music efforts...what a joke!I don't see Al or Jesse protesting the rap artists and never will,,hows that for a double standard?
