This truly baffles me:
Setting aside us all bitchin' about Starbucks (let's take that as read, shall we?), they have a card which you can get instore and 'credit' using cash - like a mobile 'phone top-up card.
So you put £10 on it, say. You can only use it in Starbucks. You buy a coffee (or what they call coffee) and you hand over the card and your card is processed and debited.
You get no discounts or anything like that, you pay regular prices.
So what's the bleedin' point? Why go through the rigmarole of tying up your £10 in a one-outlet shop card when you could - much more easily - just hand over your tenner and get the change?
Starbucks advertise it as the 'easier way to pay' - how the hell is it easier than handing across some cash? Or even your debit card?
We know why Starbucks might want you to have it, but can anyone explain why a sane person would want this card?

Just as a gift card maybe...or sending one off to a college student..other than that NO. $4 for a cup of Joe is beyond me.

if you register youir starbucks card online and keep reloading and usingh the card starbucks will send you gifts. many people figure if I am going to spend the money at starbucks i might as well get something back. That is what Starbucks does they give something back. if you look on the starbucks card there is a sticker that saysto receive starbucks rewards and benefits, register your starbucks card. Also instead of paying cash, you can load your card let's say with $100.00 and if it gets stolen starbucks will replace the card.

They are pointless. And they never seem to work so you end up waiting behind someone for 20minutes while the staff try to work out how to top it up.
I suppose it could be a benefit to someone who travels a lot because it can be used in any starbucks across the world but surely however much you travel you'd make sure you have the right currency or a credit card on you?
And surprise surprise!! Costa Coffee now also have a "easier to pay with" card.

It's supposed to be a gift card.
But also, you can use it as a sort of allowance to curb excessive wasting of cash on stuff, or to better manage your money.
Say that you want to set a budget of $20 worth of starbucks a week. This way, you can take the coffee out of the equation of balancing your books, and when you hit the end of the $20, no more till next week.

Answer is:
"Register your Starbucks Card or download the app so we can reward you. Earn a star everytime you use your card and get a free drink every 15 stars! "

If millions of people are crediting loyalty cards, Starbucks makes more profit by investing your remaining balance, plus they can analyse customer stats in an attempt to understand the customer's needs even better and make even more cash out of you. Let's not forget the junk mail they get to send you by using your stored customer data.

its about convenience for those that don't like cash. personally i agree, the "convenience" of the card vs a debit card or cash is nothing.
starbucks loves the idea because one they get this huge float with all the funds deposited in their accounts where they earn money with while they wait for you to use up those funds.
second the balance on the cards almost always will have a few cents left over that the customer doesn't want so that is additional money that starbucks makes. multiply all those millions of nickels, dimes, and pennies and it really adds up

It gives the weak minded an "UP" on spending at Starbucks.
This overpriced "dishwater" outlet is the "in" place to buy 30 cents worth of coffee for $3.50 +

im a barista in america and I can see the point of normal people getting them because now they can earn stars and get free rewards and birthday jazz, but they sent me one a barista that gets partner beverages which are free to us when we're there, and I really dont see the point of us having one. and the normal cards are pretty useless too, I mean people walk up and have me reload their card that have the money right there to pay for it.... and im like really? wtf so I end up having to do two transactions one to reload their card and one to get their drink order and it takes the money they just put on it so they want to reload it again.... ITS JUST TIME WASTED. FFFFFFFF
