He should have been suspended but not fired. I am a black and I can tell you this much. I am absolutely digusted with everyone that jumped on the "fire Imus" band wagon. NBC groveled like cowards especially to people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, two men who in their past called white people names, like cracker and uncle hymie. You would have thought that they would realized, " judge not lest ye be judged"
Look at what THEY contributed to just last year in Durham, NC when THEY called the innocent WHITE boys names in their rush to keep themselves relevant, NBC and MSNBC paraded them as moral compasses. I cannot express just how disgusted I am.
MSNBC did not stand up for Imus. Granted it was hurtful but guess what, some of these same advertisers who pulled their ads from his show also do so on the Rush Limbaugh show yet they did not leave the show after what he said about MIchael J Fox and his incurable disease. Why didn't they ask them if they had advertised on the Trya Banks show where SHE herself has described herself as nappy haired. Rappers who used the same nappy haired and ho descriptions in the songs, do they disavow the radio stations that play those songs?. Huh. This is why he was hired. He is a "shock" jock. I could understand if he had cursed or said the "n" or the "b" words-but he didn't. He used descriptors used by black people amongst themselves but he supposedly now committed a crime NBC and MSNBC are a bunch of cowards.

Why? Where is his freedom of speech? Like everything else in the states it depends on who uses freedom of speech. You can't tell me you don't hear worse then this on the streets, in stores, when kids are hanging out! Imus always made stupid statements, people have the choice of listening or not, until that right is taken away also. Because it was against blacks, God forbid, kill Imus! This is also happening with the Indians, they say what they want against whites, and mistreat white people they hire at the casino, in our small city anyway, and nothing is ever done. They do pretty much what they want and not a word is said. they have their own laws, so they do as they please.

to tell you the truth, I wasn't too wild about him to begin with but, the media has blown this WAY out of proportion(or should I say Al Sharpton). When Mel Gibson said his rude comments, he wasn't boycotted as an actor, was he?! What about "Cramer"? It's almost as if Imus is the straw that broke the camel's back. I feel bad for him but I wonder if he should just take this opportunity and bow out gracefully to retire.
What keeps brewing in my mind tho is the Tawana Brawley case, if I remember correctly, Al Sharpton was DIRECTLY involved with that and wasn't it a scam? What some people will do for media attention-sickening!!!

No. I'm an Expressive Arts Therapist and work using the arts and media in therapy with urban students for 20 years. No matter what race, color or creed if someone is offended, apologize and let the offended explain their hurt. The offender shall listen and assist in the healing. (if sincere and capable).
Our society continues to show this racial illness. Hense the need for the on going racial debates like this. The goal should be understanding and concern not further negative empowerment by any one group. Negative empowerment + politics = "the Jesses and the Sharptons. The stirring up the blame game and what we call in therapy "a victums stance." Both negative empowerment._Which helps the those in political places but keep their negative hold (in therapy we call them the offenders) on their target group by projecting theirs ills on an target oppressor, which in turn helps them keep their negative power.ie. blame /no personal empowerment no true healing.

When self enpowerment and celbration of all the good things our diverse culture brings to benefit our ways of life..Our leaders should remind us of that not stir hatered.

I first heard the negative spin on Imus before I caught the video clip on the web. It's appearant to me that was characterizing their form of play in a comeback win situation. He wasn't pontificating on any serious topic. It was a sports report!. Although, when he did hurt and he needs to apologize ,and take his lumps, but not his job.

Just don't mess with our freedom of speech with these turn of events. Just like Chris Rock one of my favorite stand up comedians once said during his video taped routines( I caught on cable )and I para phrase " If you white people think you gotta problem with N*****s Us Black folk sure don't want no N*****s in our neighborhood either!" Hense bad people are bad people no matter what you call them. And good people like the Rutgers girl basketball team are good people and they proved their class with this incident.

PS. When I saw that stand up it was right before Chris Rock hosted the Grammys or the Oscars.

i have self assurance that's a blow to sense speech and is hipocritical. Rosie nonetheless keeps her pastime, after bashing Bush, Asians, united states, Christians, and so on. Imus screwed up, constructive. yet supply the guy a hazard to redeem himself. He apologized and his comments were distasteful and incorrect, yet they were no longer that undesirable. i'm disenchanted in how human beings reacted and gave in to the stress. This double popular is somewhat glaring now. Its a shame extremely. i'm constructive that scum Sharpton is proud and satisfied. How he nonetheless receives a voice blows my concepts after his bull. Imus made a mistake. He apologized or perhaps requested to discuss it to those he directed the comments to. the position is Sharpton's apologies in the route of the Duke gamers? There lives were somewhat screwed up and nonetheless are. The Rutgers team were given referred to as a attractiveness. settle for the apology or no longer, yet both way your life became no longer severly harmed in besides. no longer like the Duke gamers. They confronted life in penitentiary for some thing they didnt do. imagine what they went by potential of. And its no longer the first time Sharpton has finished this both. the position is the outcry from the media and others at the same time as the tables are grew to change into? the position is the outcry from the media at the same time as Hillary Clinton has a fund raiser at a rap music executives homestead? humorous, cuz lately Hillary reported she has never and would by no potential pass on the Imus instruct because he's a biggot. Then what's she? That rap executives artists have somewhat derogatory lyrics. Lyrics in the route of ladies human beings, the N-be conscious continually, between many different issues. SO the position is the outcry adversarial to that? No the position. no longer in this media that chooses to area with the likes of Sharpton and different a ways left morons. i'm no longer protecting Imus's words yet did that extremely require his firing? No. somewhat at the same time as frequent you listen and see worse issues, yet no ones says no longer some thing. for instance, keep in mind that woman surfer who were given her arm bit off by a shark. nicely a somewhat renowned radio host who befell to be black performed a music with lyrics like " chew whitey chew whitey". of course maximum of you by no potential heard about that because of this double popular bull we stay with in the present day. nicely positioned PEACEFROGG!!!

No! but unfortunately he's been fired. Once again Reverend Al Sharpton and the majority of the black community have overeacted. He made some stupid and deragatory comments but he has gone on Sharpton's radio show and apologized, and that still wasn't enough for them. Although they didn't want to admit it, all of them wanted him fired. It's ridiculous that he lost his job over those remarks, for which he was of course making a joke about. Shame of the black community for not forgiving Imus.

Who's going to step up to the plate on all of his charity work? He's getting his lumps, but shutting him down is going to hurt a lot of people that need his help. What did they do to deserve that?

No. He is an on-air radio personality. His job is to speak his mind. That is what he is paid for. If you don't like what he is saying, you have the right to change the channel.

However, if by saying what he did the sponsors walked away, then he should be fired for losing revenue.

The First Amendment protects speach you don't like just as much as it protects speach that you like.

NO......If he's fired then Howard Stern should be wiped out too..
Rap music should be banned forever as well as they rap about women in horrific ways too...and why is it that Al "big mouth" Sharpton & J. "whats in it for me?" Jackson are always involved in such crappy issues..Are they supposed to be role models for the black race?I would be appauled if I were black to have either of them represent me...check their backgrounds and you will understand why..good Q btw...=)
