I recently purchased George Benson's "Bad Benson" album and am completely hooked on this funky style and would kill to find more like it.

For the 70's, in terms of jazz, I'm quite into the music of Jeff Beck and anything that Steely Dan has done. They are more than jazz, they're a blend of fusion, jazz, funk, and even a hint of rock. Benson is absolutely a master.

Grant Green is widely acknowledged as the master of funky jazz guitar and was active in the 60s & 70s. I've included a link to all available recordings on Amazon. Idle Moments is my favourite.

II can also thoroughly recommend these 2 albums:

Wes Montgomery, The Incredible Jazz Guitar of
(Benson was strongly influenced by Wes)

Kenny Burrell, Midnight Blue
A very cool, bluesy recording

*These recordings were done in the 60s but are timeless in my opinion

Chuck Mangione was very popular in the 70's. Johnny "Guitar" Watson, The Salsoul Orchestra, Ronnie Laws, Maynard Ferguson Band, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock & Grover Washington to name a few.

The music of George Benson is what you call "smooth" jazz. The smooth jazz players are a dime a dozen. I can't reccomend anything personally, but heres a good source for your own research into smooth jazz ...http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=77:4447

The Carpenters weren't exactly Jazz, but not TOO far off. GIve them a listen. You may be hooked

Karen Carpenter had the most perfect, smooth, golden voice of any female vocalist in history.
