Hello, I'm student from Europe, and I'm going to internship in one big USA Organisation. I know that i will live in one of these 4 cities: Chicago, Medison, Fenix or Atlanta. My yearly salary will be 25 000$ - 30 000$, and i need to pay rent for small apartmant (i will be living there with 1 or 2 other students, so i dont need to pay all rent). And i need to pay for food of course.

Do you think that this is enough money for normal living cost ? I'm not too demanded person (i will eat at home,..)

Thanx for help!

Yes, that will be enough if you will be sharing an apartment (roommates). You will learn to budget and live within your means!

Fenix = Phoenix. :)

In the US, graduate students doing Ph.d normally use shared accomodation (one room in a two room apartment on a sharing basis). They live comfortably with an expenditure of $ 14,000 a year including car instalment and gasolene. But they spend very little on clothes, cosmetics, alcoholic drinks, smoking, and dresses.
A single person with an annual salary of $ 60,000 to 80,000 enjoys life here.
So you need not worry. But better to have some intial $20,ooo as emergency cas and better not spend more than $800 on accomodation rent and car instalment of $ 200 per month.

Cost of living varies between cities in the US. See for index of relative costs. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0883960.html
Chicago has more expensive housing , so you will need about 30% more income there for the same life style. If you share with another person like yourself, you will have a household income of about $50,000, which is near the median household income in the US. Your salary should be adequate for any place in the US except New York and SF or LA and you might be able to afford a car, which is needed more in the US than in Europe because most US cities do not have much in the way of public transportation.

Splitting the rent cost with other fellows will help a lot.
You going to be all right with those money.The food is cheap.
Also you might get a part time job in your time off, and make some discretionary income.
Good luck!

Yes, in those cities you can live on that money, even in an apartment by yourself if you wanted to. You'd have to be a bit frugal and not expect lots of luxuries, but you'd be okay. In fact you should easily be able to finance a modest new car while doing that if you wanted to.

absolutely. Since you will be splitting living costs, that will be fine. You will not be living an extravagant life, but you will get by just fine
