If you want the true definition of a 4 point play, then no you can't. We're referring to a 3 point shot (single play). Shooting a 3 and then having a technical called are two separate events.
The only true definition of a 4 point shot, is a shot where you are fouled as you shoot a 3 point shot. This is because you could hit a 3, but you don't have to be the player to shoot the technical. When you make a 3 plus the foul, only you can shoot the "and 1" basket. So in true definition, the only way to make a 3 point play is to be fouled as you're attempting a 3. Then you have to make it. It can be called goal tending and that would count as making the basket too.

Yes, and Chauncey Billups did it just last season. They were playing the Nuggets, and Chauncey attempted a 3 pointer from the corner of the 3 point arc, but George Karl (Nuggets coach) was standing too far onto the court, which is a technical foul, and also interfered with Chauncey's shot, which counted as goaltending and an automatic 3 points. So Chauncey missed the 3, but still got a 4 point play without getting fouled.

yes but it has to be a technical instead of a personal foul...if a three point shot was attempted and made and the opposing coach disputes vehemently to the ref that the shooter's foot was on the line, he can be assessed a technical foul and thus a foul shot after a 3 pointer would make it a four point play

no, not w/o fouls although technicals could get you there. the best shot where play would continue w/o free throws is a three pointer.

it isnt possible only a 3 point shot because a personal and technical are considered as fouls and your question said 4pt shot not a 4pt play

no....even if you shoot on the courtside of your opponent to your ring, it will still be counted as 3 points....i think there is really no way unless the rules are changed - that is if they make beyond the halfcourt line a 4 point shot..
