Isn't that song strange? for one it was written and sanged by a Jew even though it was a Christian song. The artist said an interview that he thought there was more of a Jesus market than a Jehovah one. And 2end of all, he says in the song, "I've never sinned. I've never been a sinner. But I"ve got a friend in Jesus. So I know that when I die, it's going to set me up with the spirit in the sky." Does that statement make any sense to anyone? If he thinks he's never sinned then he's admitting he doesn't need Jesus. So how can Jesus be his friend? Unless it's talking about standing pure before God after the atonement. But the song is a little strange.

Why is this a Christian song? It could be a Jew song. Jews believe in Jesus. They just believe that he hasn't come to earth yet.

Greenbaum said he used the word Jesus because it was more marketable.

The correct lyrics to the song are:

Never been a sinner never sinned
I've got a friend in Jesus
So you know that when I die
He's going to set me up with the spirit in the sky

Greenbaum is talking about Jesus has never been a sinner, never sinned.

Personally, it's all a bunch of fiction. I do like the song though.

"Spirit In The Sky" contains lyrics about the afterlife, making several references to Jesus and Christianity.

However, an interview with Norman Greenbaum (who identifies himself as Jewish) notes that he had no particular religious intentions with the song. [1]

OMG! Break it down, its a song, and a good one at that. Why does everything have to be dissected? Why does everything have to have some hidden or special meaning, I mean like not everything does, you know?
