They don't have more passion, they just feel the need to justify and defend their thoughts and actions more then people who are nice.

I would consider myself to be a nice person, and I'm very passionate about some things. Passion isn't always associated with hate.

Hate is a very strong emotion. As strong as, or stronger than love.
There are a lot of things I like and I agree with. Rarely do I sit down and write a letter to a congressman about an issue I "like".
However, when political stupidity gets my blood boiling, I take the time to sit down and write.
The emotion is so strong, it spurs action.
So, my guess is due to the strength of their emotions, haters have the energy to get themselves worked up. While "nice" people, don't care enough to generate the energy needed.

Nice people just care what you might feel, but some need to learn when to leave that behind.
Uninhibited passion has its place.

Not so sure I'd associate passion with hate,but I'd rather have compassion and be nice, than hate & be dedicated to that negativity..good Q btw..

If the "nice" folks promoted their agenda as vigorously and with passion equal to that of the "haters," wouldn't this world be a much better place to live?

I don't know if that's really true....I have lots of passion and I am not filled with hate....quite the opposite

These people have inbalance mind ,they have extreme emotion,easy to hate ,easy to love. I don't care very much to be around with these kind of people. I feel like walking in egg shells.
