i think it's a matter of taste. personally i like a lot of today's music and i'm probably a few years older than u r. lol. but then again i like a lot of every age music from the 50's (which my father listened to while i was growing up), the 80's (when i was growing up), to today's music which my kids listen to. u just have to find the music u love best and feel what u r listening to. music is made for enjoyment no matter what kind of music it is.

i listened to only classic rock until i was about 20 then some bands started to play metal that i enjoy, never could stomach that hair band or grunge crap, now i have found alot of bands that i like, the problem is that the only music you are exposed to on a daily basis on the radio and on tv is mass produced pop garbage you really have to search to find originality in the industry

you are just listening to the wrong music. mainstream music as a whole sucks.check out your local music scene. here in detroit, it's great and stronger than ever. great rock, blues, soul, and pop bands. all recording and touring without major labels. or the ones who land major labels, blow up huge, like the white stripes, raconteurs or von bondies.
check out some of these bands on their myspace sites
hard lessons - high intensity rock
blanche - alt/country
pas/cal - pop rock
the sights - blooz rock
saturday looks good to me - pop rock
the dirtbombs - soul blooz rock
the detroit cobras - 50's rock
