I get mine at Home Depot, and I get the best one that they have. Never have a problem with them.

Actually, believe it or not but there are only 4-5 different water heater tank manufacturers. They manufacture the tanks and then ship the tanks to places like Whirlpool, etc and many many other places where Whirlpool (and the others) paint the heaters and put their names on them.

Each tank is pretty much the same, glass lined steel tank. So don't go paying extra for a name like Whirlpool at home depot when you can get a Rheem or AO Smith heater for less.

Also, do you need a gas, electric, or propane heater? What size do you need? Size is determined by number of fixtures in the house, the size of the house, number of occupants in the house and amount of usage at peak times in the house.

For example, if you have 4 people living in your house you wouldn't want to install a 40 gallon water heater as it wouldn't be enough hot water for each of you to shower in the course of an hour.

Need more advice, send me a message.

Most home improvement centers carry a variety of water heaters. When purchasing a water heater, the # of years that it's guarinteed for is what to look for.
That usually goes against my grain, purchasing things on the merit of how long the manufacturer is willing to back them up, but with water heaters it really does make a difference.
The size of the house is a factor, but one of the main factors is how big are your bath tubs?
I've been in many homes that have these big beautiful bath tubs that will hold 80-100 gallons of water, & go to the utility room & there's a 40 gallon water heater & the homeowners do'nt understand why they keep running out of hot water.
Do a little math & calculating & you can figure out sizing.
If it were my house though, I'd put in an 80gallon, but that's just me.
Hope this helped, good luck!!

the project of no matter if to fix or replace ought to rely to an astonishing volume on the customary of your water provide. once you've a severe calcium, lime content fabric contained in the water, then it will be a sturdy concept to modify out the unit, which will be why the stress valve is leaking. Calcium and lime are caustic minerals and could erode the metallic, iron, brass, copper, that the unit is made from. it really is been virtually 9 years, so it really is already were given a head start up, until eventually you've a water softener or conditioner of a few style. Then it ought to in all likelihood be a extra acceptable concept to easily replace the stress valve. in case you do have a water conditioning device it received't do you a lot sturdy to empty the unit, as there is in all likelihood no longer sufficient in it to annoy, in case you haven't got a water conditioning device, there is extra sediment outfitted up contained in the bottom of the tank than you'll be ableto sparkling out besides, so it really is nevertheless a waste of time. in case you do land up on the change factor, Rheem and Bradford White are both sturdy gadgets, whichever you will get a sturdy deal on ought to artwork. also i ought to flow for a self-sparkling style in case you may have the funds for it. They pay for themselves contained in the destiny.

When you say big houses, I tend to think over 10k sq feet. For larger capacity residential applications you might want to look into a Lochinvar water heater.

Basically- what you need to do is make a list of all the fixtures in the house that will use hot water. showers, tubs, sinks, dishwashers, hot tubs, etc.

Finally recovery rate is just as important as capacity. Most people think of water heaters in terms of gallons (capacity) but another question, is how long does it take to heat that amount of water?

The Lochinvar company is trying to jam their garbage down peoples throats so be careful with them. They are giving big kickbacks to installers.
