I nurse in a hospital and like my job, but sometimes I can tell from the time I get to work, its going to be a terrible day. We have patients who come in and think we are room service and get ridiculous. The families treat the nursing staff like crap sometimes and order us around like servants. One lady accused me of sitting around. I was charting, something we spend probably a couple hourse doing every day.
Then we get the cute little old lady who is so sweet you just want to take her home and call her grandma. No family, no husband and no one to look after her. She outlived everyone in her family. She is not complaining.
What makes people so crazy?

I doubt I would have ever been fulfilled as a stay at home mother. I worked full time because of a divorce.
Deep down inside, I feel like stay at home mothers are lazy. I got the idea from a girl I know who mooches off everyeone to stay at home, shops every day. Never cleans house and lives like her husband should make more and more money to support her. Her kids are really mis mannered, dirty and she never had clothes on them.
My mother was a stay at home mom and she was very tidy, and thats just the way it was back in the 60's. She didnt have a car because my dad was at work in it. She stayed at home.

I think the family members treat you like crap because of 2 things.

1.) Because you let them! It seems that the boundary has not been set; therefore, there is no respect.

2.) They have a problem! This can come from their bad past experience with other nurse, frustration because of their love one's condition, medical costs, uncertain about the future. It can be anything, so I wouldn't even try guessing.

In all, you need to display the sense of confidence, that you are doing your job properly. And if that lady accuses you again, you should suggest her to speak to your supervisor - who can clarify to her that what you are doing is normal and within your rights (so back off!!).

Some people hate hospitals. There are ups and downs to every job. Nothing is perfect. Even your favorite job will have bad parts to it. YOu have to take it as an uncomfortable situation for them and you are there to make them as comfortable as possible. On the other hand, I wouldn't be likeing the person who told me I wasn't doing my job when they know nothing of it either. I hate my job, I work retail for a jewelry company. My husband has allowed me to stay home with the kids, but we're in such bad shape with money, I had to work, and I think that "had to" phrase has put me in a mode of hating what ever I do. I have work at home jobs, but nothing that will keep me home so far.
