So many times I hear Christians say things like:
"But God didn't MEAN that we should stone adulterers or kill witches, or chop off women's hands, he meant that...."
And no "but thats the old testament" answers please (see link)

Yes, I should have asked - "How can people whio call themselves Christians..."
To all the people who answer, please consider... before rolling out the 'New Testament excuse'... that the "New Covenant" does not release Christians from the killing of homosexuals, or witches, blasphemers and the worshippers of other gods either.
Why don't Christians do this anymore?

Because the Bible is large enough and has enough contradictory material so that any time you choose to follow one thing in it, you necessarily are omitting something else that it says since you can't do both at the same time. They simply don't have a choice.

Why do critics of the Bible and Christians insist on being so fairly ignorant related to what the Bible says and teaches? information flash... there's no prohibition in the Bible related to engaged on Sundays. The prohibition against eating shrimp replaced into chanced on in the previous covenant; a covenant Christians at the instant are not a occasion to. And, there's no command or requirement to supply all one's possessions to the poor. .

Most people don't take the time to understand the cultural background and reasons for the laws and some of the Old Testament writings. If you try using them in the context of today they become blurred but if you look at them in the context of the original language, the culture and the events of the time they make a great deal more sense. Of course you have to dump some preconceived ideas too.

Obviously you are not interested in a response, considering you have already decided what answers are and are not acceptable.
But in any case:Those laws were meant for a very specific time and place and for several reasons. Not as an open ended order for everyone to carry on until the end of the world.I find that many people misunderstand the Bible, and that contributes to the problems.

Although it is true the Mosaic Law was ended by Jesus, everything else is valid.
Even the Mosaic Law gives insights as to how God thinks.
Some Bible books are purposefully a bit difficult.
That's because God had them written way back, but did not want them understood till our day.
Daniel and Revelation are 2 examples.
Its 90% straight forward, except, of course, some don't like what they read so they twist it.

If you believe in the Bible, you should believe every bit of it.
What logic is it for you to believe in this and I like that, not this?
You have no choice. You can't change the water to flow upwards. Right?
One thing puzzles me is that each sect says his religion
is right and all the others are wrong, and this is why the
world cannot be at peace.

I didn't look at the link, but your question is a common one.
Rephrase it like this and you will have your answer:
"How can people that call themselves Christian pick and choose......"
See the difference? There are many self professed christians, but few Christians.

Sounds like misinformation fueling hysteria to me. Why don't you make a meeting with a local pastor or priest to discuss these things face-to-face, no strings attached? You'll probably get more satisfying answers than the anonymous soundbytes you're bound to get on YA.

Yeah,Dude.
Christians like to pick and choose.
When I asked them where in the Bible where polygamy is probhited, the will all point toward Deuteronomy.
When I asked again why didn't you follow Deuteronomy where it's say's it's not OK to eat pork? They will tell you that it is a Levitic law.
I mean who are they to decide which is Levitic law and which is universal law?
Christians aren't Gods, but certainly act like one.

Well it seems they can, whether they should is a whole different ball game...People temps to bend the rules in general in order to make them fit their urges and desires...
and their own personal comfort. That's human nature I'm afraid.
