She jumped up as soon as she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room. She said: "How is my little boy? Is he going to be all right? When can I see him?"

The surgeon said, "About two hours or so. He's still under anaesthetic so that'll be when he wakes up."

She said "So he's going to be OK? You cured the cancer?"

The surgeon smiled. "Why yes. The operation was a complete success. Thanks to the groundwork laid down by the chemotherapy we were able to shrink the tumour and remove it. Your little boy is going to be fine."

He paused.

"Of course, this was only possible thanks to the dedicated research of scientists who developed the drugs necessary to save him. If they hadn't been allowed to research stem cells to formulate a treatment as those religious extremists wanted then your little boy would have died. Thankfully rational people didn't allow that to happen."

And they all lived happily ever after.

Yes lucky they were adult stem cells.

"Adult stem cell-based tissues present an advantage over embryonic stem cell research because they can involve the patient's own cells, which is important because embryonic stem cells have problems with being rejected by the immune system."

Cheers :-)

Adult stem cells. They are useful, and they don't kill anyone to get them.
