Generators are almost always placed in parallel. That way a breakdown in operation of one generator need not interrupt the operation of the others connected in parallel.
Also, if generators were placed in series, then the power transfer would be in series also. This would be a very daunting task as there would be extremely large amounts of current in each generator.
It is for this reasons that all other equipment (transformers, loads, etc) are all placed in parallel.
