If you haven't done so yet, you should be getting ready to take your cat back to the vet - or any emergency vet if your usual one is closed rather than waiting here for a reply which in your heart of hearts you know will be of no help to neither you nor your cat. - go on - get your coat on - and I'm sure we all with you both all the best .
Even so, considering the urgency with which you should be dealing with this matter I fail to see why you opted for the answers to last for seven days when clearly seven hours should have been sufficient! ! !

Before you can call the police and report a shooting, you need to determine the real cause of your cat's injury.
I don't know what kind of tests your vet did, but I think you should take your cat to a different vet who would do a more thorough exam. Your cat should never have been released if she couldn't stand up. A QUALIFIED vet will have a better idea as to what really happened to your cat.
You're not a vet, so to try to do a self diagnosis if futile. Your cat really needs a professional diagnosis immediately to prevent further damage. It's up to you as her loving and caring mom to do whatever you can to help her. I agree with another post that your cat may have sustained an auto injury.
If the damage is unrepairable, then you need to give careful thought to your cat's quality of life - not your own needs. This is a very hard thing to do when you don't want to say goodbye.
My heart goes out to you and your sweet little girl. I'll keep you both in my prayers.
P.S. Not to reprimand, but what was your cat doing outside at night?

I'd check first how warm the back legs feel, if they feel noticeably cold there could be a blood clot, you can check how much feeling is there by checking the pedal or deep pain reflex by squeezing the skin between the toes untill you get a response from the cat, if you don;t then this would also suggest loss of sensation/blood supply and i'd get the cat straight back to the vets. It could also be that the cats basically in pain from the possible pellet wound and this is the problem, hope this helps :-)

You need to go back to the vet at once. Either there's another pellet in her back end or spine, or it wasn't a gunshot at all but a road traffic accident. Either way, it's serious - cats with tail injuries often can't pee or poo, and so quickly deteriorate. If the tail is lifeless and she cannot use her back legs, this is not shock, it is a spinal/neurological injury. Road traffic accidents often present like this - the hole may have been a wound from the accident.
You took her to the vet right away which is good - but if she's not better, she's not finished at the vets! Good luck.

First of all i want to say who ever that shot your cat, they are going to get punish. OK. About your cat condition, I am pretty sure that the rifle is still in her shoulder. It is better of you go and have he or she x-ray. Because that is the only way they can find out where the rifle is and be able to take it out. I am sure it is quite painful for a cat to tolerate that kinda of pain. And on top of that you said he or she is 16 years old. Going through this kinda of trauma is quite bad for a cat like his or her age. I hope you can really take he or she to a Vet to have them check him or her out.

like everyone is saying I agree. take you cat to the vet and explain what you are seeing. it could be nerve damage and it may be reversed if it is done in a timely manner.
Then I would call the police I lost a cat do to someone being just sick by killing him with a bullet and letting lay beside the road even though he had all his tags and everything on.
best of luck and I hope that your cat gets better

I think by taking her to the vet, you did the right thing. I would definitely call back and see if your vet had observed the other wound in which you mentioned. If so, then it's been noted. If not, then the vet might ask you to bring her in for another examination. It's difficult to find wounds on an animal sometimes, and the kitties certainly cannot talk to you and tell you where it hurts.
I think another evaluation by your vet is in order just to make sure nothing was missed, and that your kitty is stable. Why take chances with her life? If you love her, then it's worth another trip to the vet just to make sure.
Best wishes.

I think you should go back to the vet and also report it to the police. Do you know of any kids with pellet guns. If so I would call on their parents. Good luck

Take it to a vet and report it to the police. Your cat can get lead poisoning from pellets i know it happened to my neighbours cat, the police will keep a record of all animals shot in an area so they know where to look for the person shooting animals , they caught 2 teenage boys in my area recently and the rspca are prosecuting them.

You need to get your cat back to the vet as soon as possible. Poor thing! Might have to have an op maybe. And will probably need some pain killers and anti-biotics too.
What's wrong with these stupid kids that do these things? Makes me so cross.
