I have a diamond ring that I got years ago from an ex. I know nothing about diamonds and am trying to figure out what it is. This is what the receipt says: LDS RG .64CTR l-l1 .88CTW 14KYG. Can anyone tell me what this means? What is CTR vs CTW?

The ring itself has a big round diamond in the center w/ 3 small diamonds on each side.

Any help in explaining any of this would be greatly appreciated. I know what the ring is worth, I am just trying to understand it better. Thanks.

The receipt means:
LDS= Ladies
RG=Ring
.64CTR= .64 Carat Center Stone
I=Slightly yellow in color, the end of the near colorless range
I1=Rating meaning, inclusions are visible to the naked eye.
.88CTW= .88 Carat Total Weight for the entire ring
14KYG= 14karat yellow gold
Any other jewelry questions and you can email me at the link below and I will try to answer them.

When my husband was going to propose he wanted to make sure to get me a ring I wanted. I didn't need a ring but he insisted. I said no diamonds... well, no clear ones anyway. I wanted some color. I love purple but wanted something that reminded me of him. Sapphires are not as hard as diamonds but they are very hard (won't break or chip easily). He picked a blue sapphire... his birthstone and favorite color. I love it and now wear it with my wedding band. Some stones are softer and crack and chip easier so you don't want something too soft but there are many options. I think colored gemstones are beautiful and much rather prefer them over a diamond. Get what you want. If you want a gemstone then don't be afraid to get one. Some people will say that getting anything other than a diamond means your fiance doesn't love you enough to drop more money on you but that is just shallow and lame. Others say that a diamond is the only stone that will always match your outfit because it's clear but who cares?! Your engagement ring should mean something to you and your fiance and it represents a promise you made to each other to get married.

I think the CTW has more to do with the diamonds or the gold, rather than the message. I think that, if there is nothing more than diamonds and gold, but no letters or message on the ring, then everything you've put down has more to do with the diamonds or the gold.

CTR means Choose the Right.

.88 CTW looks like carrets total weight. .64 CTR looks like the carrets of the centre diamond.

I believe your biggest diamond is .64 and your small diamonds are .08 each.
