Hard to say, they both have shed so much blood since they started.

They are very similar, regardless of what some Christians and Muslims will tell you.

I'd go with Christianity in a second... Take the suffering brought about by Christianity by the crusades, by the Spanish Conquistadors, by the Inquisition, the Hussites Wars, and the the Peasant's war alone, and it's very hard to compete with, no matter how hard Scientology and islamic extremism may be working to try. If not suffering Christianity at least has the most deaths caused, which I'd equate to creating suffering for SOMEONE... If you were to say only first-hand suffering counts though, which takes suffering that ends rather promptly out of the pucture, then Islam probably wins with the opression of women some groups carry out in its name.

It's human beings who cause suffering, not religions. Those who are furthest for God and have the least understanding of who he is and what he stands for are to cause of the most pain and suffering. In almost all cases called 'religious' the cause is political. Northern Ireland - political, the Crusades - polital and most Islamic fundamentalism (with some exceptions) is politcal.

One difference to be noted is that for the very beginning of Islam war was promoted by the prophet Mohammed. From the beginning of Christianity Jesus came into the world to bring peace. Whatever has gone right or wrong since being in the hands of their followers throughout history is due largely to the humans in authority.

That's an interesting question

Right now, Islam is the same age christianity was 500 years ago, around the time inquisitions and witch burnings got into full swing.

Cumulatively, christianity's probably worse, although in the present day I'd have to say there seems to be more suffering in the islamic world.

I guess the other interesting aspect to this question is that they both believe in the god of Abraham.

How much killing and suffering has been in the name of that god?

...caused the most ? or suffered the most ? lets first clear up something... The Children of the Hebrew Nations have suffered the most... 6000 years and counting....
"Christianity".... that's very difficult to say... under Constantine, quite a lot... but this is where it stops... Islam has chosen NOT to follow the God of Abraham and has taken the path of Ishmael... "they" worship Allah, The moon god of Arabia...(who ever or whatever that is).... So, if you're thinking that Islam gets a "pass"... start reviewing the current day News items from the past 15 years and see just how anxious Islam is trying to be number #1 in the horrific categories...terrorists murders, kidnappers, oppressors of woman and children etc. etc.

The answer is neither, but rather the atheists have been killing directly and indirectly more people than anyone in history. Hitler and Stalin are the models of the modern day Globalist Liberals who are killing Christian both directly and indirectly where ever they can get away with it. For example the Liberals in the US government are allowing and supporting the murder of African Christians because they can get away with it without being exposed, in reaction to their inability to Palov Christians out of Christianity and into their perverted society. These same liberals have caused the anti-christian sentiments through the public schools, colleges, museums, parks, cartoons, sitcoms, documentaries (History Channel), movies, radio, books, magazines and the internet. Their indoctrination programs, have resulted in abortion, which is murder, increase in violent crimes, suicide, alcoholism, drug addictions, gambling addictions, Satanic worship in many variations including Yoga, White and Black Magic and other hate groups. The Democratic Liberals are the most dangerous people in the world and are responsible for the destruction of the USA. Young Americans you need to turn on your school teachers, college professors and those in authority and starighten out your own lives, because these are destroying your lives.

Considering the 600 or so year head start Chrisitianity had on Islam, this is a tough call.

However, currently some of the cultural norms in countries that are also Islamic are quite outdated (like not allowing women to drive, the head scarves, etc.)

I am going to have to agree with Warren D., Satan acting through idiots, most of whom which dont believe in a god, leaving them wide open for REALLY bad things to come into their heads.
I believe that secular humanist thought BY FAR passes christianity and Islam. Hitler and Stalin both were atheistic. Hitler said that he was just "helping nature along" by exterminating the Jews since they were sub-human anyway. Stalin made communism the religion of the day and exterminated over 20 million people. Evolutionary thought has been used over and over to justify killing off other races. The american indians were savages, the aboriginese were not human, ****** have no soul, white people are blue-eyed devils and not quite human. The Japanese were sub-human.I think you need to widen your horizens on who is the most brutal on planet earth.
Every time that you see mass murder in History, it is NOT relgion, but the ABSENCE of it that caused mass slaughter. Most religions have set moral values that forbid doing bad things. some would twist and pervert scriptures to their own evil ways, and dupe the hordes into following them.
And for the record, If you look in the BIBLE, you will see women and slaves sitting in the church-house on equal terms with every one else, UNHEARD OF for that time. In the new testament is says there is no bond or free, only those in Christ. Both master and slave were equal in God's eyes. This was the beginning of enlightenment, not the end of it.

I just finished reading an article about a 16 year old girl who was hung in Iran for having sex. Then two women who were hung for having killed one of a group of men trying to rape them, with witnesses to coraborate their story, except the witnesses felt the women brought it on themselves by being in a park alone, after the group of men chased off their dates.
This is a little bit worse than a secondary role. I'm thinking about doing a little crusading, myself.

Hey, why are you putting the blame on religions? People and ideas, through power, fanaticism have throughout history devised different ways to bring suffering to each other. The fact that people chose to see things as one religion against another religion- to the point of ending ones existence from this present form..really needs to be examined.
Each religion chooses a spiritual guild that takes them to the point of light. All paths lead to God; Higher Power, Source.
It is people that choose to control, distort, Mame, burn, destroy....all these negatives, in the name of religion!

It's totally obvious that the Christians will point the finger at Islam and vice versa. Everyone here is bias towards their own religion. there is no point in asking this question.
