Maybe a little bit of both.

I wish I could remember the name of my favorite beginner's book. It was actually the first one that I came across and it dealt more with the principles behind why magick works rather than a simple list of spells. As a beginner that is definitely more important. Practicing spellwork is important, but you should probably spend at least as much time studying as you do practicing.

I recommend writing some of your own spells. Practicing magick means being in control of your own mind your own world. Controlling your perspective on the world around you is the key.

You could write a short paragraph that will helps motivate you to keep on working hard while doing something that is physically straining, carrying grocieries home, or working out, etc. Something that can be easily memorized. Rhyming helps with that, but it is not necessary.

Spells for the most part should be personal. I don't tend to think that just mixing up some spices is going to do anything for me. Ya know what I mean? That doesn't mean that a spell that someone else wrote won't work, but you should definitely consider why something might be effective or not.

I have studied for years. I have read hundreds of books on the subject, both beginner's books and some more advanced stuff.

I do have a favorite spell. It doesn't involve any ingredients or tools, just someone who understands the principles and practices a little better. I can teach it to you later. It has been the most helpful to me, but it comes with responsibilities.

How long have you been studying exactly? I can help you write some of your own spells. If you want to talk to me more about the principles of magick, beliefs, ideas, or spells, hit me up, and tell me a little bit more of your background and what your goals are in the practice. What do you expect the craft to help you with? What kind of spells are interested in?

read read read. you should read everything you can on subjects that interest you. knowledge is power. don't be worried about a karmatic debt unless you're spell was places with harm in mind. if you just wanted it to rain, there is no ill intent. if you wanted it to rain in order to harm or inconvenience someone else i guess that could bite you in the butt. really the law of 3 fold is intended to serve as a warning not to use power for ill effect. if you do spells to bring health and good fortune than 3 fold is a good thing. really witchcraft is a very blanket term, it can be Wicca based or pagan or any other earth based belief system, it is what you make you're own that matters. i personally take a lot from Wicca but a belief in god and goddess is not one i follow so i cannot call myself wiccan because that is a large part of that belief system. i read of all religions and take what my heart tells me to take from it. don't call yourself a witch, call yourself a spiritual person, or religiously open. then you don't have to subscribe to every aspect of a belief system. i even have a bit of traditional bible i believe, but i am not a catholic or a christian. my must reads include; Wicca for the solitary practitioner, practical color magic and one about reincarnation that will blow you're mind is called embraced by the light. i hope you find a path that suits you.

do as much research as you can before practicing actual spellwork. mother nature probably played a part in this one, being it is a time of year when it does rain more....or snow if you live where i live, ugh....there are lots of books at barnes and noble that could help you out. remember though, first and formost, dont do any spells that force someone to do something for you....example, a spell that gets a certain person to love you messes with free will. DONT DO THOSE KINDS OF SPELLS! just dont. those are the ones that will get you in trouble with stuff coming back to you.

ps, to the guy above me, magic doesnt work like that, its a form of prayer.

I was just like you, but I am between black and white magic And if I ask for something such as timego fast or slow and other things (depends) I will get my wish, but you have to be careful when doing such magic it can backfired 10 times believe me I know. Just Try to use it in a good way or you will be damned for life and not only that, your future children will be damned as well. You can go to Barnes and Noble for beginners and other witchcraft stores, search the web. Maybe one day we will meet in Barnes and noble and look for some magic in the same lane. For more questions check my email and type. Don't about what people say alongs you use it in a good way and believe God.

The favors that we enjoy are from God. What u have mentioned about raining is something that is not possible. It was just that God wished to rain and it rained.

Majic and spells are only to deviate the people form the Right Path. If u disagree, then why don't you try in a hot summer and see if it works or not.

In Islam, when it doesn't rain, we make a special prayer to please Allah. I have tried this many times and believe me, it rained by the grace of Allah, amny times.

Well witch, your spells can get you killed. I new a gal once who had gotten the head witch mad, and the war was on. The birds came, then sickness hit the house, and fire fell down. Evel followed her everywhere. That witch sent 3 of her best witches to this gals house, and sat an chanted great spells. And the wind got up, and dark clouds came in, rain came down. In that moment, that gal gave her heart to God, and angles apeared all around the home, and the witches were pushed back away from this gal, by angles with big swords and flaming fire. And in one month 4 witches died. Each a week apart.
The gal is my friend now. She is powerful in the wisdom, and power of God. And her God rains with her, Jesus, has such love for her, any one of white magic, or black comes agenst one of his, dies. Just to warn you.
I saw it with my own eyes. So be afraid witch, God is watching you, and angles who protect, will protect.

There is a nice spell for beginners. It's a spell to get the sun to rise. It really works well if you practice at the proper time.

Be careful. Know WHOM you are asking this from. Did you realize that Prayer is powerful? More powerful than any spell. The onlly thing is God might not want you to have it right now for many reasons. Research WHOM you are requesting this from. REALLY DIG.
