do you think it is fair that they bumped the army Tour up from 12 months to 15, when the marines only have a 7 month tour? Why didnt they bump them up 3 months and then everyone would be even?

it sucks but i think its because army is the ground troops. I think everyone should be pulled out of there and we should tell Iraq you have 24 hours to leave before we bomb you but last time i said it people didnt like it.

I think it is because the Marines have fewer men and women serving than the Army does. They need to have shorter tours in order to allow them enough time at their home base in between deployments.

My husband is currently serving in the Army and their unit was extended from 12 months to a 15 month tour. At the same time a very good friend serving with the Marines had their 7 month tour extended to 9 months. Our friends' unit is already set to re-deploy, where ours is not.

Either side you are on can be considered unfair to the people going through it. Let's just support the guys who are out there fighting and pray that they all make it back safely!

Ya the best part is that when they had 12 month tours the were involuntarily extended to 14-16 months now they have 15 month tours they will be extended to 18 months.
PS Ryan P., You are a freaken idiot, just sit on your A** and talk because we all know you have never served or have a clue about the military.

Ok first thing there are fewer Marine units than the Army so their need to rotate happens faster. Army is the main force used for long term use, Marines are a lightning strike force tip of the spear.
OH and haywood you should reread about Germany and Hitler because you don't know jack. For one males were forced in to service in the army and then young boys.
We have an volunteer army and no one underage of 18.

Don't know about fair. My first tour in Vietnam was 14 months, my second was 8. There is nothing fair about the military but I feel for you if you are affected. I think it suc*s that they keep pushing out the tours but I guess, given the circumstances, what with very few new enlistments, there not much to be done about it.

Jesus, Army wives like you really piss me off.

Dont get me wrong, we are all in the same boat. But while your husband may only see combat three months out of the time he was there, my husband sees combat 100% of the time. I only get to hear from him once every other month if I am lucky. The Marines are more elite, with better training, and are meant only to do the job when the Army cant. Look it up, I'm not just bashing the Army.

I was with an Army guy in high school, at the beginning of the war, so I'm not just spewing things I know nothing about. Believe it or not this time it is a 10 month tour for my husband, so stop your b*tching. I could complain that my husband doesnt get R&R, but I dont.

Bottom line is that there are different Commandants for each branch. It just so happens that the Commandant of the Marine Corps has set deployments for a 10 6/12 ratio. In other words they go for deployment, train for 6-12 months and go again (if they are Infantry). Though my husband may be home I wont see him at all next month, then it's pre deployment leave, and back to Iraq.

So please, before you cry fair or unfair, understand the other side. God Bless you, and I hope that your husband comes home safe.

God Bless America, God Bless Our Military, and Semper Fi.

No, it is not fair! I was in the Vietnam war, and we had to spend 12 months in country. That was what the politicians, not the citizens of America, agreed on. 15 months is what president bush (not capitalized on purpose) decided on. You are dealing with what the German's had to deal with before WW2, another Hitler. I am sorry. As an American citizen, I am trying to stop this insanity, but those in monetary, and physical power, are preventing me from doing so!!! What should I contemplate doing next????

When I was over in Iraq my cousin was there with the USAF. He was complaining because the USAF has a 4 month tour. I haven't checked to see if theirs has been extended.

Check into the tour requirements during WW2. Then whine and moan.

It's not fair. But George Bush has absolutely NO IDEA what he's doing so that's why they bumped up the tours.

He's now looking for a new "War Czar" to overlook the operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. So far, three retired four-star generals have turned him down. Why? Because:

GEORGIE BOY IS AN IDIOT WHO DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING!
