I don't understand how resting your muscles between days of working out lifting weights and doing other exercises allows time to make your muscles grow. How does it work?

When you lift weights, your muscle tissue actually tears. The resting of the body parts in between allows the tears to heal. The healing process is where the muscle building comes in. Your body fills the tears with more muscle tissue. With the result being bigger muscles!

you are not letting your muscles grow. you are letting them rest. you are causing great fatigue on them as the other poster mentioned. by skipping day between weights, you are allowing the muscles to rest.
