Where, in God's name did that come from?
I can only think of the Christian creed which says, 'I believe in the holy, catholic church.' But in this context the word catholic means universal (from the Greek - OED). It has nothing to do with Catholicism, (Catholicism vs. Protestantism) whether Roman or Anglican.

Apparently a certain David Hunt (never heard of him up to now) decided that the whore of Babylon mentioned in Revelations ch. 17 refers to Catholicism. I see no use of the word whore in this chapter. (I googled).
When John supposedly wrote the Revelations there was no such thing as 'Catholicism'. Maybe Dan Brown could make it the subject of his next fantasy.

How can the bible describe Catholicism as the 'Whore of Babylon', it did not come into existence until long after the end of the bible stories?

I hope that you have the bible reference! As Catholicism did not exist at the time of the bible...Also Catholic is a Latin word meaning World Wide!
By the way I am not a Catholic! but I used to go to The Salvation Army.
