If you have spent any length of time in this forum, it will soon become apparent why formal education is required.

A person called to preach or lead should be prepared to deal with a wide spectrum of persons. Some persons will want to have deep, philosphical, and theolological discussions with a cleric. If one is not formally trained, all one can offer is rhetoric and platitudes. That will satisfy only a few in your sphere of influence.

Others, especially seekers, will want to discuss the usual topics, such as the existence of evil, attributes of God, doctrine of the Trinity, and sacraments such as the Lord's supper or baptism. You can learn about these things on your own to some extent, but you will eventually need some formal study to become well grounded.

Spend some time reviewing questions, but more importantly, the answers in this forum. It will be readily apparent to you from what you read who are the persons possessing formal training are from their answers.

You don't; BUT you must study and know the Bible and God's "Word"...This is done by...

1. Prayer
2. Self study
3. Prayer
4. Asking someone you trust and believe is more knowledgeable than yourself, questions.
5. Prayer
6. Find yourself a mentor either close by or even long distance that you believe will teach you the "Truth"
7. Prayer
8. Make a list of what you believe right now...and back it up with the Bible (Not Man)
9. Prayer
10. Go on line and do a search for ministries that teach what you all ready believe...(a lot of time if you do this and see their reasoning, you find that it really is not correct).
11.Prayer
12.Prayer
14.Prayer

You don't need the Greek and Hebrew language...either the Bible in your own language is "HOLY AND CORRECT" or it is not, and if not, I will tell you the same thing I have told thousands before you, Throw it in the trash because it is worthless.

Spelling is no big deal if you are a preacher you are using your voice not your spelling... The Bible says Faith comes through "hearing" the Word of God.

Just make sure you KNOW YOUR LIMITS...

I have been in the Ministry for 30 plus years and in 2002 I had a stroke. My ministry had to change from one of going out where I needed to know the verses right away, to one of Radio, and Seminars where I have time to prepare and write things down, since the stroke keeps me from recalling exact verses where a subject is located.

FOLLOW THE GUIDANCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

If I can help you in anyway "email me"

"PLEASE STUDY THE WORD OF GOD"

YOU DON'T !__ BUT YOU SHOULD !___There's two ways to become a preacher that's to be ordained by another preacher or to GO TO SCHOOL ! there is an advantage of going to school because you get to really LEARN and get an UNDERSTANDing by STUDYing the word of GOD. It's important to understand the word because we're in the last days the enemy only has but a short time YOU MUST BE READY !__You might come up AGAINST someone who working for THE ENEMY but know the word like a DISCIPLES of JESUS how will you BATTLE that ?___if you haven't studied ! __ Whereas, if you get ordained right away you only get experience in preaching this way you can ask questions and nothings expected of you ( such as job duties are concerned) this also helps YOU make SURE it's something that you really want to do before you COMMITT YOURSELF to the pastoral organization you plan on working for. This is not an ordinary job you have to be chosen for it ! DID GOD CHOOSE YOU ? IF you say YES !___ Then let "HIM" PREPARE YOU !

Would you like someone to come into your house and tare out your plumbing and not know what the heck they are doing? People have to have the right conseptions of the Book called the Bible. If you dont know how to learn it, live it, you have no right to preach it to people who follow any thing that looks like a god. But not. Sheep lead to the death. If its not done out of love, wisdom of God, its not God. Jesus and the desiples worked for 3 years in the Kingdom. Befor doing the will of the Father. Why should we be any diffrent.
I dont want some lawn mor man doing surgery on my head. And that is what you get when they are not called of God. Preachers are good to have around us. But alot of them call themselves preachers, when in fact they are only after the richs and not the teaching of the soul to go to heaven. Youth directer needs to be seasoned up more then a preacher, due to his call is greater, youth take alot of energy. And they challenge more then older people. They need the Bible in them. Just to guard them agenst the stuped ways of children running over them. Its wisdom of God not man that makes a preacher and youth director. Not mans teaching. You get a clown in Gods clothing then.

I think that Harvard offers a good preacher's program but its limited only to the brightest (Divinity School) My sister applied there and was rejected (she majored in Christian Studies)

You don't have to go to an accreditated school. The Holy Spirit empowers you to preach. If you have heard the call then it's to preach, not get a job in a denominational church the seminaries for which have been overrun with those whose purpose is to bring down the churches with questions about foundational beliefs. If you have the call then preach the word.

You don't. Churches can hire whoever they want.

But if you have a degree in something, it makes you look more knowledgeable. They study things like how to market the religion, how to do counselling, things like that.

Mind you, I'm an atheist but I did go to a bible school so I know what they DO

Because the clergy should be educated and able to answer questions and compose interesting sermons rather than merely read from a book.

In some Christian denominations, you don't. In mine, you definitely have to go to seminary. To me, if you're going to read any book, even the Holy Bible, it would definitely help to be able to read it intelligently. Few congregations would likely be interested in hiring an inarticulate, uneducated pastor.

People who want to work in ministry should go to school so they understand that Bible and Bible History. Also in order to fully understand what the Bible is saying you need to understand the Greek and Hewbrew language so you can get the full meaning from when the Bible was translated.
