No, it doesn't work and if he is a good friend you should keep it that way as it will turn out bad. From experience twice.

I've done this and it has ended *so* ugly... it didn't have to though. In every case I was involved in, the man fell completely in love with me. I was not capable of falling in love and having a relationship (as I have a boyfriend... but that's a separate issue) but once they fall for you there's no turning back. Even when you set rules and boundaries (no falling in love, etc) it never works. Well, it has never worked for me. Just don't fall in love unless you're able to... and setting clear rules from the beginning does help even if it gets ugly.
To bring it up... I'd just say it. At a movie, over dinner that sort of thing. You can be more coy than blunt, but it will take longer and you may not get a clear answer.

Didn't work on Seinfeld and won't work in real life either. You will end up being disappointed and wont be friends anymore. If you are willing to " give it up" so casually, just go get a gigolo. If you interested in a future with him, then make it clear you want to be more than a friend but not a one-timer and gone.
OK, I'll go back to the last century or two now.

It is never a good idea to have a "friendship with benefits". One of 2 things usually happen. 1) It can ruin the friendship and you get so you don't even like each other as friends. Or 2) You may start to feel more then friendship for him like us women usually do and he being like all guys since it started out being only "friends with benefits" he isn't going to want to change a thing, why would he when he is getting the physical with out having to deal with the emotional and is still free to be with who he wants to be?

No one out here knows either of you so how can someone tell you or not if it is going to get ugly. If this is a friend, why would you want to risk damaging the friendship? I don't get it... why do you want to be like a cheap sleep around ... How about some self-respect here ... and respect for the friendship.

There is no such thing as a "casual sexual relationship". Find a spouse, a person you want to be with forever and ever. Marry him. Have a sexual relationship. Don't mess around with important things like sex.

it can be done... but you both have to be able to not allow your emotions get in the way. If that happens all sorts of nasty things follow...
Do you two flirt with each other?
joke around, talk a little dirty and see what his reaction is..
or just be blunt and tell him flat out that you see him in ways that other friends don't and you want to have some no-strings-attached fun.
