A morbid question I know... Who would think that it was anything but offensive to remember a murder victim by a replica of the instrument of his death- but is that not what wearing a cross is?

The difference is that the cross symbolizes Christ's victory over sin and death. His Resurrection from the dead and appearance to His followers transformed the cross from an instrument of death to the symbol of eternal life. So when a Christian wears a cross it is one of faith in the Risen Jesus.

Well, yeah. I would think that their life is more important than their death but...in the case of christianity it's not. Only by the shedding of blood to THEY get remission of sins, so they have to like that symbol. Sad but true
