Christians are not wearing hoods like the Klan. This is a tradition I believe dating to the Middle Ages. In Spain they do marches like this during Holy Week and the people wear the colors of their church. Each Catholic church has a different color scheme and wears them in a parade while holding candles. It is for those to repent and only recently females were allowed to participate. Some walk bare foot and some carry crosses. It is quite a sight. The Klan was created long after this and it is sad that such a long and holy tradition has to be associated with the Klan. In other countries, the Klan is not what they think of when they see this. The Klan is a creation and tradition of the southern United Sates. On the other hand as an American, it was very scary for me to see this in person the first time. Very surreal. I understand the first reaction to the photo, but it is not the case at all.

The answer has been given several times that they are following an ancient traditional role for penitents which is true. Some answers have been given that imply or flat out connect the Ku Klux Klan with Christians. This is a lie from the depths of Hell. Although many Klan members claim that the Klan is a Christian organization the fact remains that no true Christian intentionally would have anything to do with anything as reprehensible as the Ku Klux Klan or their allies the Aryan Brotherhood

These people are penitents from Spain
This is the traditional garb of a penitent and it is designed to preserve the anonymity of the wearer.

And it is entirely possible that the Klan copied this when they designed their uniform since the penitent garb has its origins in antiquity.

I think the hoods are like the blinders on a horse, meant to keep the people wearing them from seeing the temptations around them.

The caption refers to these individuals as "Penitants". That is someone who is repenting for specific sins that they committed. I would guess that they don't want their faces seen or something of the like. I have never seen this before either.

They're probably Democrats since it was Democrats that started the klan.

This photo was taken in Spain - and theyv'e been wearing those hoods for centuries before the KKK existed - so why should they change just because someone "took" their symbol and changed it into something very ugly.

I don't have the Cordoban history of those outfits, but you can bet your bottom dollar they pre-date the klan by several hundred years.
