Wow there were so many DUMB responses by christians on the last post I had to ask again. I won't have enough character space here to get through all of them though. 1) you putz who quoted the bible, did you read the question? If 2 Gay atheists want to get married why shouldn't they? You reply with quotes from the bible?! The situation involved 2 Atheists! 2) bats_fan, wow you're a moron too. "If you're calling Christians and Catholics bad for trying to "force" their beliefs on others, than you're no better than they. Feel better now, do you? " I am NOT telling christians what to do with their lives, do w/e you want! But not allowing laws to be passed which prevents people from legally marrying IS stopping someone. Aaron "Umm...marriage was meant for a man and a woman...just like man was made for women." Show me ONE place other than religion where you see that. Also "Gays don't procreate thats why they shouldnt be together. "Guess anywoman who cant give birth shouldn't be married

Its called morality, BASED ON RELIGION. Thats the problem. how do you seperate what is good and bad, from what your religion tells you? You just have to assume they are the same, because you are a brainwashed sheep, you have no choice. So even if it is horrible to not allow Gay marriage you'll never know because you won't be able to question it now will you?

I've always been of the following opinions:
1. Whatever my personal beliefs on homosexuality are, I support gay marriage. Government has no business telling people who they can marry and legislating morality is not government business (especially not on the federal level - I'm libertarian). I wouldn't want someone to do it to me so I won't do it to others
2. They aren't hurting me so I'm gonna do my damndest not to hurt them
3. A little compassion on my part will do far more to make the world a better place than any gay person forcing themselves to act straight will.
4. With a +50% divorce rate, you can't talk about the 'sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman' with a straight face.
5. Never argue with a pig, you just get dirty and the pig likes it (ok, this one isn't applicable, but it's still good advice)

Christians/Catholics FORCING religion on others, by not allowing Gay Marriage take 2?

I read your question and had a little trouble understanding what it is you are trying to covey. Might I take a liberty and rewrite your question? Thank you.

IF BY NOT ALLOWING GAY MARRIAGES ARE CHRISTIANS AND CATHOLICS FORCING THEIR RELIGION ON OTHERS?

This is a little better. I'll do my best to answer.

Why no. Our cities, towns, states, and country has laws in effect that govern the policies of marriage. These policies are voted in by our representatives who we appoint. People who are Christian or Catholic, for that matter, whatever they want to call themselves have no influence in the matter at all except in the voting box.

Our country was founded on the principals that are contained in the Bible. If you get the opportunity, read it. You will find there that God is not pleased with gay and homosexual behavior.><>

The institution of marriage had its origins as a religious sacrament. So some traditionalists become offended when they see their sacred institutions being made a mockery of, their argument goes something like this:

Marriage is the legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife. Thus it is impossible for two people of the same gender to be married.

However gay & lesbian people have parallel institution called a 'civil union' that grants all the same rights and privileges as a marriage without offending traditionalists by using the word ‘marriage’.

From a unchristian standpoint, I don't think gays should be married because they can't procreate and it isn't natural. There are many species of animals that mate for life, and sometimes do so more successfully than humans. But I have yet to see a species that mates for life with a same sex partner. I don't understand it from a natural standpoint besides misplaced lust. As a believer in Christ I believe forcing anything on anyone is not the right thing to do, and completely defeats the purpose of Christs Love. I don't think the issue is Forcing as much as protecting what God has given us. I think allowing same sex marriages would show our children unhealthy options for their lives on religious and non religious issues alike.

I only need one reason to support same-gender marriage: The US Constitution requires it.

Recall that marriage rights (over 1000 of them) are given by the state. Recall also that the state is subject to the US Constitution, which says that ALL are created equal and entitled to the same rights. Therefore, any two unrelated people of age who desire to marry each other should be able to get the same marriage STATE rights. Religion should have absolutely no say in a Constitutional issue.

Note that people who want to ban marriage rights equality would have to AMEND the Constitution to support their bigotry and hatred.

Let's see... Christian Americana: Reasons why Gay Marriage should be illegal ----

1) Being gay is not natural because real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage would be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

11) Gay couples are a harmful influence on their kids, because all gay couples abuse their kids, daily.

When you actually think about the act they are doing, you'll really come to realize how disgusting it really is. Even considering both homosexuals are healthy the same as say a healthy heterosexual couple the act of intercourse for them is healthy but not so for a homosexual couple, there is a real chance of tearing to the colon or other complications, and the bacteria found in the colon is capable of causing dire consequences, death if it gets into your blood stream. Just by the nature of the complications associated with homosexual activity you know by nature it is just wrong. Do you ever wonder that if homosexuality did not exist there might not be HIV.

Two Gay Atheists.

IF they are 'true' atheists, and not 'anti-God', then they have no morality. It can not co-exist: morality and atheism.

You are seeking a legal gay marriage go to MA. They allow it.

The 'religion' part I fail to understand why you would care, if you're the 'gay atheist' involved.

Furthermore, if you are not--why are you wasting time, energy, on such a question?

Sounds like you need a hug and a nap.

The last time I checked, this country was based on majority rule. And the majority in this country do not approve of homosexual "marriage".

Do you not think that there are non-religious people out there who object to it? What makes you think that only religious people have a problem with it? Also, why do you focus mainly on Christians? There are other religions that forbid homosexuality as well, not just Christianity.

Another thing.......Catholics are Christians too. Who told you that they were separate from the Christian church? You obviously don't know anything about Christianity, but you sure have alot of opinions on them, don't you?

And finally........ I think the majority of Americans resent having marital benefits given to homosexual "couples", taken out of taxpayer money, when that "marriage" is not even recognized as a marriage, but viewed as an unacceptable lifestyle. When these "benefits" are to be given out to such people, I think the American taxpayer has a right to be upset about it.

The majority in this country still are the rule. We don't have to pander to less than 1% of the population everytime you cry foul.

Setting moral opinions aside for a moment.

Democracy dictates that the laws of the land reflect the morality of a majority of its citizens.

If the majority of its citizens think that marriage should be only between one man and one women then a democracy should reflect that opinion.

This is how a democracy works.

With love in Christ.
