Lets leave the King Jame Bible out of this.

I am asking why do you choose to follow, Russell or Smith.

Did they not teach diffrent docterines from what is taught in the Bible?

JW"S, didn't your Jesus return in 1874? and 1914? What does your little green bible say?

Mormons, Didn't J.Smith teach a new doctrine when he wrote the Book of Mormon?

I am not trying to hurt either group, only to make you think. Why would you turn your backs on the Bible and follow docterines of men? Your reponses are angry. I am not trying to anger you.

Maybe I am angry Lillie, at all the lost souls these man made organizations are stealing from God. It is my obligation as well as any other Christians to tell you the truth. I do not want you to miss heaven because you chose to follow Mr. Russell instead of Jesus Christ. What I say here is written for your edification, not to upset you. Please in the name of Jesus open your eyes. Remember what your own scripture tells you, if a phrophet makes a mistake, he is not of God! I say this in the name of Jesus in Love.

From the time people learn to read and understand and separate imaginations and imaturity from facts, life, truth and reality, there is no excuse for them if they care, to take another persons word for the bible,
what is sinful humans all about and what is going on in an out side the bible,
neither to trust any world organized religion or another person, the bible was written as the people lived it, all have excess to it, and as God told them the things they did not know that was necessary. A general idea of space and earth and perfection, then total time and information from LOST to SAVED.

What man? All of our beliefs are based upon the Bible. Generalized attacks on a group of people is easy. Mention something a little more specific and I can show you. From the Bible.

And if it's the New World Translation you're going after, take a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_BeDuhn

Edit: New doctrines? Be specific please!

And why on earth are we always mentioned with LDS? Do people think we are the same? We are very different in many ways. Is it because we both preach from door-to-door? Isn't that a command from Jesus himself? Why aren't all Christians known for this?

I most certainly do not "follow" C. T. Russell. He was a sincere brother who earnestly wanted to find the truth. So he started a Bible Study group. He was wrong on some things and correct on others, just like every student of the Bible. >We have never claimed he was a prophet.< And as for 1914, that IS the year that Jesus began to rule in heaven. And that particular year can be discovered through considering Bible prophecy. And btw, the NWT hasn't been green since the eighties. Mine's brown.

Far from "turning my back on the Bible," I try to read it everyday and seek confirmation for my beliefs in it. And in it alone.

I'm not angry. Just frustrated with the obvious prejudice in your question and the false assumptions you seem to have about us.

Edit 2: Brother Russell WASN'T a prophet, HE never claimed to be a prophet, and WE'VE never claimed he was a prophet! I thought I said that already! It seems like you are determined to believe something that just isn't so.

What is your source of information about Jehovah's Witnesses?

Because I can safely say that, for a fact, it is inaccurate.

Funny you call it a new doctrine when it's what the bible taught all along. If you want to call something new doctrine, question the trinity teaching, the custom of celebrating Christmas and birthdays, the way people celebrate Easter and the fact that most people ignore the one thing Jesus DID tell us to commemorate, which is the passover the evening before he died! Throw in the idea of human beings having an immortal soul, and a God who created a place of eternal torment when we are taught all through His own word that He IS love and that everything he does has a purpose. What part of His will would torturing someone forever accomplish? Rather than criticize, you should examine what is taught by JW's and see if it isn't what the bible says! Further, I hardly think you can compare us to Mormons, since no JW has ever claimed to be a prophet and wrote a book that they claim to be inspired and supersedes the rest of the bible! But I'll let them defend themselves if possible...

I chose to listen to what the Witnesses of Jehovah teach, because everything taught by them, is from the Bible and they are the only ones, who do follow what the Bible says on any matter and that is why they believe not because of what any man says, there is no new doctrine as you claim all of the beliefs that Jehovah's Witnesses hold fast to, are in the Bible, even the ones that they get attacked and acused for not being Christian for, yet these beliefs they get accused for are usualy wrong beliefs by Christendom, and are not true Christian beliefs in the first place, beliefs like the trinity doctrine that people of other religions accuse us of not believing in, that supposedly make us not Christian, yet the trinity is not only not in the Bible it is disproved in the Bible even in the King James version, Nowhere in the Bible does it say that God is a trinity nor does the Bible explain a triune God. Jesus himself said that he is the son of God not God or any part of any trinity(John1036) God called Jesus his son the beloved that he has approved and sent(Matthew3:16,17) The Bible says that no man has ever at anytime seen God(John1:18)Yet thousands of people have seen Jesus when he was on earth,Jesus did not ever say that he was equal with his Father but that his Father is greater than he is(John14:28)And even Jesus does not know the day or the hour when the end will come only God knows that time(Matthew24:36)Jesus also observes God's word not his own(John8:55)Yes I did have Mormons come to my door also, and I did not go to their church because they do follow a man (Joseph Smith)But Jehovah's Witnesses only go by the Bible and though I have visited other Churches I have found that these did not place the high value on the Bible as do Jehovah's Witnesses. I am well aware of (Revelation22:18) which you wrongly apply to Jehovah's Witnesses for they do not remove anything from the Bible or add anything like other Bible translations including the King James Version does, Removing God's name, which appears over 7,00 times in the Bible is removing from the Bible I have an older King James version which explains in the forword that the Name Jehovah has been replaced with God and Lord except in 4 verses where they left this name of God, yet in the new version of the King James Bible there is no foreword about the taking or replacing of the name Jehovah, yet it has been removed completely even from the 4 verses where it was left in the older version, yet still people insist that our New World translation or the JW's take things out of the Bible even you seem to do this by citing (Revelation22:18) Buty whose Bible has been changed in view of this? Not the NWT but the KJV.I have done my research on this, maybe, you should too, after all, you yourself quote (Revelation22:18) which shows the importance of accurate knowledge and beliefs.

If you are a Born Again Christian, then you know that you have a baited question for those JV's and Mormons. But, my response is that born again Christians also follow many different Bibles, and some interpretations are significantly different than others - So are Protestants listening to "king james" if they use that version of the Bible, or some Catholics to the Bishop who signed the Imprimetur of a New American Bible? I've done chat rooms where we compare text, sometimes the meanings are very different - so aren't we all listening to "a man" or group of publishers?

I dont know what your problem is.You appear to be angry for whatever reason.
Anyway,Jehovahs Witnesses do not follow any man.Jesus Christ is the head of the congregation. And Jehovah is our God.
Br.Russell started examining the scriptures searching for the truth and Jehovah blessed his efforts and the number of truth seekers grew.Jehovahs Holy Spirit blessed the growth and in 1935 he allowed us to be called "Jehovahs Witnesses",which we all recognise to be a great priviledge.
From examining the scriptures over the decades of course there have been mistakes made. But Jehovah has always provided more 'light' to shine and scriptures that were not clear at one time became clearer as time went on.Even today, clearer understanding of certain verses are received.
Just as in the first century. The Christian congregation back there had more and more light shone on the issue of circumcism.Untill the light shown brightly and understanding was reached. There is nothing wrong with that.It doesnt make them or Russell false prophets.Misunderstandings are bound to occur due to our imperfection. But as least Jehovahs Witnesses study God's Word and not man made doctrines. And we endeavour to live our lives by its standards and principles.
Fulfillment of bible prophecy does prove that Jesus did 'return 'and start ruling as King of Jehovahs Heavenly Kingdom in 1914.This is not disputed but understood to be fact.As Witnesses of Jehovah we are blessed to have spiritual food in abundance and not be in spiritual darkness as those in Christendom are.
I used to be a Catholic.I know I now have the Truth.
You would do well to open your heart and allow God's Holy Spirit to help you come to accurate knowledge about Him instead of trying to run down his earthly organisation.

Yes, "Jesus is Lord" and his is the only doctrine that Jehovah's Witnesses follow. Like Jesus, we glorify the Father's Name, and live to do His will.

I don't know what "man" and "new doctrine" you think Jehovah's Witnesses follow rather than the Bible. You have merely made a statement, without any proof at all.

"Russell"? "Little green Bible"? You are really way behind the times!

The Holy Bible is the source of our belief and practice. Only the Bible. That's why we don't believe in man-made philosophical doctrines like the Trinity (never mentioned in the Bible), or God-dishonoring doctrines like burning human souls forever in an eternal hellfire.

It comes down to personal revelation.
"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" (Mormon) is the Church that God showed me to join. It doesn't really need to go any further than that.

but just to add a bit more...from the "Articles of Faith"
8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

We listen to Rev. 22:18 ....just interpret it differently than you probably do.

Just like you probably can explain why 61 more books are in the Bible even though this scripture is in the 5th Book of the Bible.

Deut. 4: 2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

The Bible was written by many different men when being translated from the original text and decided by many men what books they were going to put in and keep out.

The Bible as it is written and distributed today tells you of other books that are not included. Reread the old testament for verification of this fact. The Bible tells you that "There are many books missing". It was man - Not God who took the stories and letters from that age and decided as to what Man wanted them to have.

God gave it all to us but man decided what they thought was best.

Revelations was written by an exiled man in the age of the Roman Empire during Nero's Regine.

So to answer that question you must ask the same of yourself.

Respectfully,
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints :>)

Joseph Smith did not write the Book Of Mormon,
He translated it. Just like the Bible that you read and I read was translated. Mormons do not follow Joseph Smith, We believe in Our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ and live as followers of Christ.
We also do not judge man as taught by Christ and the teachings of the Bible tell you that there is only one Judge of man and that is Our Heavenly Father and his Son that sit in judgment of us.

Was not Christ a man? Where not those who came before and after Christ came to earth Prophets? Isiah, Abraham, Moses...etc.

I follow the Bible. I am Christian. For that reason I became a Witness.

I noticed you provided a link to MacGregor ministries. That is the opinion of a man and his interperatation of the Bible, NOT the Bible.
