The title "Vicarius Filii Dei" has NEVER been an official title of the Pope. Someone made it up. NONE of the Pope's REAL titles add up to the number in question.

Frater Pan is most correct in his findings. The number 666/616 is considered a modern day numeral but the Roman influenced numerals were more widely used. In the modern day of 666/616 you will not find as a mark but more of a representation of the Roman version of DCLXVI -666 or DCXVI -616. These were the version of marks that were the first written during the writting of the Christian bible. All forms of writting were done in the traditional latin prior to the common language spoken in each country. It also references the 666 or 616 yrs of Roman rule when Nero became ruler. So whatever the mark is "supposedly" to be it will be, more than likely the old Roman numerals that we still use today to mark "special" documents or it will be more of a digital rendition of the number. Myself, I do not believe in the Revelations theory because of it's historical "repeat" of the current times in which it was written. I would definately go with Frater Pan on this one, my answer is just to clarify historical reference.

The problem is that Vicarius Filii Dei is not a title of the pope.
