I have medium reddish brown hair and I wanna get it bleached to a golden blonde color. Is it a bad idea to get this done at a cosmetology school?

I went to cosmetology school, some of the girls in the school actually do great work, my advice to you if you decide to use one is ask for the best senior student in hair coloring. good luck

If anything it is a better idea to get it done at a cosmetology school. It's cheaper than going to a salon, and it's pretty much like going to a salon. I was in cosmetology class all through high school, and when clients would come in and get their hair done, we would do their hair but our teachers were watching our every move. There is no way they can screw up your hair because the teachers pretty much do everything anyways. And I used to get my hair bleached all the time in cos class so just go in to make an appointment and talk to the teacher and tell them exactly what you want done to your hair. They will do whatever you want them to. Trust me.

Good Luck!!!!

i`ve had many different processes done before at cosmetology schools, & i haven`t had any problems...it`s usually ok, because the students are monitored by the instructors & if they feel a bit unsure about something, they can ask for assistance from them...plus, the prices are very reasonable compared to a regular salon...

It depends upon the school and the teacher. I have done it at a state licensed cosmetology school but I would never do it at a Private school because they are just into the money not into abiding by the law and we had people come out of those schools get hired who passed the exams and school who could not do hair which speaks very poorly for them such that they got fired fast. I have no idea how they got hired as badly as they did later on.
I have done my own hair at home, had people without licenses do it whom I knew had the talent. A license does not mean one is any good at all I can vouch for that even after 25 years of experience they can chop hair which amazes me they kept doing hair and made money. It may be because they get use to doing the same clients after awhile and forget every head of hair is different. Would I recommend you do it yourself..well when I was young and learning having the wrong color of hair did not bother me too much so I got my experience partially that way with color. Nothing like having pink hair or fire engine red hair to wake one up about doing something extreme when one knows nothing about the products. Most store products are safe but they always have disclaimers. I would not go to just anyone outside I would look around at whomever you see and ask where they go if you like their hair - I believe that is how I ended up going back to my vocational school while in college because the girl I spoke to got her hair done there and I liked it so I asked for that senior student.
Some people are only good at cutting hair, some people only at straigtening, some only at curling permanently, some only with color and some are good at various things or all of them so just use a little caution with selections. Usually the senior students know their stuff at Vocational schools along with the salon manager but not always. I do my own hair usually because I know my hair well even if it is a big hassle and time consuming to do my own hair and I am tired of coming home wanting to cry over my hair being messed up. My hair looks easy and fools too many from what I can tell.
It depends upon the school. If you go get a student who is a senior student and about to graduate. I would also suggest a vocational school preferably during the day even if they are harder to get into as they have to carefully follow the laws because they are regulated and monitored more than private schools also they tend to hire some of the best teachers. My friend who went to a private school in Las Vegas said they stuck her out on the floor the first day without any training and she watched the girl across from her to copy her hair cut. She said I taught myself because they taught me nothing she said it was all about the money along with a few other students who transferred to my vocational school. As day time vocational schools get less people they tend to cater more to them during the day because they need them for the students to complete their requirements as they are only opened during regular highschool hours.
