i'm going to the uk and i wanna send postcards to a few ppl....i would email but i'm not taking a computer. how expensive is it to send a postcard back to cali and where can you get stamps (airport, gift shops?!)

Emails are ordinary, it's much more fun to receive a postcard than an email! Just like in the U.S., you can buy stamps at the post office, often from hotels, or shops where you buy postcards. You can also buy stamps online!

According to the Royal Mail website, it costs 54 pence ($1.06) to send a postcard to the US.

One or two tips for you...

Put the postcard in an envelope, it prevents the postcard from getting postmarked - the postmark often ends up on the picture side as well as the writing side. From experience, envelopes tend to get delivered quicker as well.

You'll probably want to use air-mail which should take about 5 to 7 days to reach CA. Surface mail is a little cheaper but takes up to 4 weeks. If you send by air-mail then put an 'airmail label' on the envelope - free from Post Offices.

If you put postcards in envelopes it's a lot cheaper to send several at once. You can send up to 8 postcards in an envelope for about the same as sending two separate postcards.

As has been mentioned, stamps are available pretty much everywhere. Several Post Offices have vending machines outside which you can use night or day. Many supermarkets (stores) and garages (gas stations) are 24 hours and sell stamps.

You can print your own stamps online (need a credit or debit card). Public computers are available in many internet cafes, libraries, some fast food outlets and pubs (bars) and clubs have them.

as for stamps you can buy them from pretty much anywhere now including post offices, garages, local shops, supermarkets, etc.
