True, I think many people use religion as a security blanket to cover them when the going gets tough. My sister was never religious until she got a divorce 3 years ago. My father complained to my mother all the time about going to church up until 2 years ago, when he had his first heart attack (he's 56 now).
For me, it was the opposite. I grew up as a proud Christian, but in the past few years, I've observed that many people use religion as a tool. Much like a compass that points them in the right general direction in life and hopefully leads them to success and happiness. For myself, this didn't work because I cannot depend on something that is intangible as God. So religion may work for some people and will enrich their lives.
No one can say for certain if God exists or not, which is why it is hard for many people of practical nature to put their faith in something they cannot see or touch, hence the word "faith". But going back to your question, I don't think religious people are weak minded....it is just a preference, a way to live life. Would you think someone is weak minded if they are always nice and courteous to others, even though some people don't deserve it? Some may argue on this point, but ultimately it's a personal perspective on how you want to live life.

For me my following my God(Jesus) it is not for secure practices yet I only have confidence. there isn't a actual thank you to describe it nevertheless. It comes via faith. you are able to examine each thing you want to approximately religions and if there's no faith you will in no way understand the respond. I got here to renowned my Lord returned in 1989 and that i've got been blessed ever on account that. I understand your finding and not expertise it. To get the respond attempt asking God. it could sound strange or loopy, yet say you do after which God speaks returned. It maximum in all probability will never be actually yet in some way he talks returned. He sends somebody else your thank you to help with the respond or something happens to describe it. once you examine(the Bible) have confidence what your examining. undergo in strategies this(B-undemanding I-training B-earlier L-Leaving E-Earth) i'm hoping this permits you out.

Dear Reyals,
You may be surprised to know this, but the Bible does not teach religion and trying to reach God. It actually teaches the contrary that we can not reach God- and that's why God reaches down to us.
Yes there are many religious wars. If you read the Bible it does say that it is a reality that there are wars- because men are envious, etc. But there are religions that teach to destroy other religions (Christianity is not one of them that teaches this). It is true that there are many Christians who do not share God's love in a loving way (and it is also true that many people claiming the name of Christ do not behave as Christians ought).
The truth is men and women are destructive towards one another regardless of their religious beliefs.
Amazingly the Bible teaches that those who know Jesus have a ministry of reconciliation not destruction...
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

You're assuming things in your question. You say how can one follow a being one does not truly know? Well, you can't speak for me, sorry. I know Jesus Christ. Yes, I have studied the bible. My faith is not blind, it's studied and reasoned. You think religion is security for the weak? Okay. Am I weak? You bet. Jesus said I could do nothing without Him....and that's just how I want it.
If you depend on yourself and don't believe in God...well, that's your right. But please don't assume things about others.

So you propose to declare global war on the religious? Do you condone destructive behavior towards those who believe in God, and why? Because an atheist website tells you so?

I don't need an organized religion to help me reach God. What I need is to read the Bible and understand the interpretations of the Bible.

I am careful in how I use the word, 'religion.' When it comes to my relationship with God, there is no religion involved in the sense of rituals at churches, and the rest of the expected activities.
It's me and Him. That's it. I talk to Him the same as I would talk to you. Stright up, and if anyone's fooled, I know it's me. After all, He's smarter than anybody, you know. lol

Whenever religious people have to answer the question: "why does God allow so much evil to exist?", they tend to give the answer, "god gave man freewill." Well, since the same people who tell you that there is a god also tell you that he gave you freewill, use your god-given freewill to think for yourself. Why rely on a book written by a man with the same freewill as yourself?

That was what I thought until I started going to a good Church. I realized that they were not weak, but strong. They could say no to temptations and keep their word to their own hurt. They would go out of their own way to help someone and not expect a reward. They were generous with their money. I really learned to respect them, but it was not for me until I received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Then God filled me with His power and then God set me free from my addictions and false thinking.
