Best books you should read: Gone With The Wind - Margaret Mitchell. Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbook. Stories by O'Henry. Sherlock Holmes stories. To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee. Good books: Life Expectancy - Dean Koontz. The Stand - Stephen King. Swan Song, Boy's Life, Wolf's Hour - all by Robert McCammon. The Irish Country Doctor series - Patrick Taylor. Most of James Rollins, Matthew Reilly books are fast paced adventures. Steve Alten wrote the Meg series about a megalodon shark (hugest thing ever - long thought extinct) that came up from the deep and terrorizes people.

Anything by Tamora Pierce. She has two worlds that she tends to write in, and multiple series' on each. Start with the Alanna books or The Circle of Magic.
Other good young adult authors are Christopher Paolini with "Eragon," and Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy.
The Chronicles of Chrestomany are very good as well, though I can't remember who wrote them off hand.
As you're getting older, I would suggest Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books or the Obsidian Trilogy. I think the Obsidian Trilogy would make an excellent transition from young adult fantasy to adult fantasy.

Artemis Fowl series,
Circle of Magic or you could move up a couple levels and read the Halo series, which my 13 year old raves about.

The Divide Series by Elizabeth Kay are great for fantasy readers. I enjoyed them even after I technically "outgrew" them.
