Because she's going to want to be cleaning up after a kitten *and* a new baby?
Hold off on getting any animal until the entire family has the time to properly care for it.

Absolutely not! A kitten would be one more thing that your wife is going to have to feed, nurture, and care for. New born babies are a TON of work. Your wife's new baby will need to be every 1-2 hours for the first 4-6 months which will leave your wife drained, deleriously tired and, more often than not, very depressed. So I'd say go ahead with the roses but don't pile on another needy living being at this point. Instead, try to give her as much time to catch up on rest by volunteering to watch the baby or, if you're bottle feeding, offer to wake up a few nights a week and feed the kid so that your wife can catch up on much needed sleep. OH! The biggest problem with having a kitten around a newborn baby is the fact that cats have toxoplasmosis in their feces which can make babies very sick or, even worse, kill them.

Definitely the roses but hold off on the kitten for awhile. It is just a wives tale about the cat taking the babies breath but there have been cases of a cat or kitten being attracted to the smell of milk on a babies breath and smothering the baby to get to it. Even with out that there is always the chance of the kitten seeing the baby moving and deciding to attack the small moving hand or foot.

Hi,
Definately the roses, but only if you look after them for her. The florist can tell you how to care for them. I suggest whatever colour your wife likes. Maybe even a plant as long as the florist says it is easy to care for. Also, I would purchase 2 weeks worth of housekeeping or more for your wife and maybe a massage, pedicure and manicure that is if you/friend/or in-law etc. will look after your baby. She will need some pampering because babies can be very demanding. As for a kitten, definately not. Your wife will have her hands full with bathing, changing, feeding, burping etc. and she will be trying to get naps during the day because baby will probably have the both of you up most of the nights!! As for kitten maybe later about 2 years after baby even longer depending on how demanding your child is. I have a kitten and an older cat and both take much care each day! I hope this helped

If your wife if pregnant now is not the time to get her a kitten. There is something in the litter of a cat that is very bad for the child in the womb. I can't remember exactly what it is, but, if you do buy her a kitten, remember that she can not go anywhere near the litter pan until the baby is born. I would wait until the baby is born to get the kitten. But then, it is going to be enough of a hassle dealing with a newborn and trying to train a kitten. Not a good idea. Nice idea, but stick to the flowers.

Kittens are not a good idea when a new baby is around because they get jealous and if you can;t devote a lot of time to them they will be badly behaved and as the baby grows if it pulls their tail or leans on them the baby will be shredded cats don't take well to that type of treatment, cats are better for children 8 years or more so they are responsible and can understand about looking after an animal properly.

No kitten yet. Wait until the baby is at least a year old. They will grow up together. Flowers die so quickly. Buy her a beautiful plant that does not require alot of care. She is going to be very busy.
Congratulations on the coming baby.

Roses yes - her favorite color - if you don't know it, go with the unusual like apricot. Kitten - not now. Dangerous for her to clean a litterbox right now - it can pass on a disease that is harmful to the baby. Wait till the baby's here (and at a few months old so you have time to adjust to that) and then add kitty. Unless of course you're willing to do 100% litterbox duty.

Cats don't get along well with babies. My mother had to get rid of her cat once I was born. He even started acting strangely when she was pregnant. If the kitten is very young, however, they may grow to like the child.
Are roses her favorite flowers? If you're getting roses cause that's just the thing to do, there's not much love in that. If she likes them, good for you. Personally, I'd rather get a bunch of $3 poms than tired old roses.

Skip the kitten. Pregnant woman and cleaning a cat box do not work!! She'll have enough to do and worry about with out the added stress of a kitten.
