Some Verses from the holly Quran:
In the Name of Allah Most Merciful Most Gracious
27:15 AND, INDEED, We granted [true] knowledge [15] unto David and Solomon [as well]; and both were wont to say: All praise is due to God, who has [thus] favoured us above many of His believing servants!”
27:16 And [in this insight] Solomon was [truly] David’s heir; and he would say: “O you people! We have been taught the speech of birds, and have been given [in abundance] of all [good] things: this, behold, is indeed a manifest favour [from God]!”
27:17 And [one day] there were assembled before Solomon his hosts of invisible beings, [16] and of men, and of birds; and then they were led forth in orderly ranks,
27:18 till, when they came upon a valley [full] of ants, an ant exclaimed: “O you ants! Get into your dwellings, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you without [even] being aware [of you]!”
27:19 Thereupon [Solomon] smiled joyously at her words, and said: “O my Sustainer! Inspire me so that I may forever be grateful for those blessings of Thine with which Thou hast graced me and my parents, [17] and that I may do what is right [in a manner] that will please Thee; and include me, by Thy grace, among Thy righteous servants!”

There were two women, each of whom has babies. One woman's baby died. She stole the other baby. Each claimed the child. Solomon had no DNA testing, but he was smart enough to solve the problem. He offered to cut the baby in half and give half to each woman. One woman said yes, the other said no. Solomon gave the child to the woman who would give it up rather than have it killed, because her answer revealed the true love of a mother for her child.

The only example I recall being related is the one about the two women who were fighting over a baby. Both women had delivered babies, and one of the infants had died. Both were insisting that the baby was theirs. Solomon said he would cut the baby in half and give each woman half. The woman to whom the baby actually belonged said to just give the baby to the other woman. The woman who was lying said that was a fair solution. Solomon concluded that the baby must belong to the woman who was willing to give him up in order to save his life.

When two women claimed to be the mother of the same child, he said to cut the child in half and give each mother one half. The actual mother screamed in horror at the thought of this and was willing to give the false mother the whole child. Solomon knew that this must be the actual mother and gave the child to her.

my favorite story is the story of two woman who came to him...each one claiming the child to be their own.
the women became very ugly with each other and King Solomon ordered the child cut in half by a sword and each woman would get one half of the child.
One woman gave up immediatly and consented to the other woman taking the child....and King Solomom gave her the child and told the other one to go away.

Ecclesiastes----noting that "there is nothing new under the sun" I love that
Tons more in Ecclesiastes---he wrote the whole beautiful poem about "a time and purpose for everything under heaven---a time to be born and a time to die, a time for war and a time for peace, etc."
Wasn't he also the king who, when the mothers were arguing about whose baby died and who the surviving baby belonged to, told them they had to cut the baby in half? He did this, knowing that the true mother would give up her baby to the other woman to spare its life.

Having a harem! He knew that he couldn't stay faithful to one woman his entire life. He was the KING! Women were practically THROWING themselves at him. So he decided that he would have MANY wives so that he would never get bored with one woman, AND since he was the king, he could do whatever the hell he wanted!
Smart man!

The one that really spoke to me is after he indulged himself by buying everything, building himself temples and gardens, gathering wives by the score, denying himself nothing that he wanted....and then he said about it all, "vanity, vanity, all is vanity". Wise, wise words.
