It's a question I reflect on often, having 20 acres in an isolated rural area. The answer is, it's not as easy as it sounds, nor is it impossible. But it takes knowledge and a way of thinking I wasn't raised with.

Think about what goes into a meal: protein, vegetable, grain. Think about how many meals you'd eat in a year. How can one grow/pick/hunt all that food? Where does the wheat come from? (It won;t grow where I live.) Soybeans? Cabbage?

How about clothing, shoes, winterwear? Hot water? Cooking? Medicine? Heat? Transportation & hauling? Remember, there are only 24 hours in a day to get it all done in.

It's a challenge, for sure. But it can be done. I'm taking small steps to become more self-sufficient, like raising chickens and installing solar electric. I have a long, long way to go...

Yes, I could survive off the land if it hasn't been bombed, or destroyed by a war. Living off the land in America , would be great. I would live off the fat of the Land.

You can and I have. Hundreds of people in Alaska do it every day, not to mention thousands of farmers in this country.
After you've survived a winter snaring rabbits, it's difficult to imagine why people can't survive a week in the Superdome.

Even if you had the ability there is no land for free. I could do it but there is a time limit on your experience. Rules for wilderness areas. Not much homestead land to do it on.

If "The Land" is the name of a nice hotel/resort, then yes. If you mean building fires and shelter, eating berries, and peeing outside, then no. I'm a girly girl.

Nope, I couldn't. I'm as Foghat put it,"A Fool for the City". I love the city. Music, food, the arts, everything about them. I wasn't born to be Daniel Boone I guess. lol

No way. I'd be out in the wilderness whining about being hungry, uncomfortable, and not able to take a shower.

You could if you had access to fairly clean water and a way to boil that water. Also you would have to be surrounded by vegetation. Hey...Have you ever eaten a Pine Tree?
Good question by the way.
