Do the targets move or are they all stationary or both? Does your MOS determine which weapon you are qualif for? Because if im not mistaken if you get sharpshooter on your test you can become a sharpshooter where you use ahunting rifle? so would you train with m-16 durring basic and hunting rifle durring AIT?

Thank you Iraq51. What i was refering to was a website I went to that listed the 4 different levels of snipers. One was with a company that used a hunting type rifle and stayed back and took many shots to hit a target it doesnt stalk. then it moved up to a guy with an m-16 with scope that would move up with a company. then the pro sniper that hunts, stalks, one shot, moves often, green beret. Then the counter sniper.

Let me tell you how it was when I went through basic....long ago. All targets were stationary....other than pop-up target. Every soldier regardless of MOS must qualify with the M16. Some MOS sub designations (don't recall the correct terminology) qualified with the M203 and the M60 (the SAW today).

There are 3 qualification badges for the M16.
EXPERT...................best
SHARPSHOOTER....better
MARKSMAN..............good

No, if you qualify at sharpshooter you don't..or didn't get to use a hunting rifle. Why would you when expert is more qualified.

I qualified for consideration for army sniper training, perhaps this is what you mean. But because I was slated for OCS I wasn't selected to attend. I would have liked to have attended.

Now in OCS back then, we all had to at least become familiar with nearly every weapon in the inventory; including sniper rifles, twin .50 cal machine guns and the flame thrower. Now....that was fun.

Perhaps times have changed, but I just haven't heard of hunting rifles used for combats reasons. Maybe spec ops?

NOTE to Senator: Seems the Army has become fore sensitive since my time. We were taught: Breath, Relax, Aim, Squeeze or BRAS. That extra S changes the entire meaning. But Sight should have always been included.

All qualify on the same riflle.
Beyond that, different MOS's may require qualification on a particular weapon.

Good luck.
Remember BRASS
Breathe, relax, aim, sight, squeeze. Go for expert. Be the best thereis. .
